Default Went To OCB This Morning

I went to the DC OCB this morning....the "No Firearms" sign is not up anymore. I was CC'ing but anyway...I had a nice breakfast and then I asked for the manager.

The manager came out and talked to me a little and I told him who I was. I said I wanted to thank him for removing the sign because I know there are a few of us who have kids that love the place and with that sign there, many of us weren't willing to go there. I talked to him a little about the sign itself...

He basically said that when it all happened, corporate sort of panicked and their attorneys said to put up a sign. It appears that some of them have been reading our board and they knew we were going to meet there that Tuesday before the council meeting. I think they were worried about bad publicity and hurried to get a sign up to head us off. I can understand this from a business stand point and I hold nothing against them for that at all.

At any rate, he said that a few days later, corporate said they were free to remove the sign and the firearms policy is essentially up to the district managers. He said that policy may change but he doesn't know for sure. It will all depend on how corporate and their attorneys want to handle things in the future. At this point though, the DC OCB no longer prohibits firearms.

Jerry was a real good guy and easy to talk to. I appreciated his telling me about the sign and I thanked him for taking the time out of his day. I also explained to him that our intent that night was not to cause his business any issues. I also said that I will tell everyone here that the OCB is a decent place as they are not trying to keep us out and I would spread the word that the signs are now gone.

One other point I did make....he seemed a little uneasy that we may all show up there again. Apparently he had to deal with some issues from corporate when this all happened on the 9th. He didn't come out and tell me that he had a problem with us showing up but I did say that I would mention to everyone that perhaps we could fore go any future meetings at his establishment to prevent any more issues for him to have to deal with. I would hate to know that we are causing problems for him and his place of business. Of course I did make it clear that there will likely be members attending who do carry guns but I said perhaps we will pick some place else to have meetings.

He was a very personable guy and just seemed like he was caught in the middle of everything and wanted to do what was right but in his spot, there was no clear right or wrong as it wasn't really something in his hands to decide on.

Anyway...from there I went to Toys R Us...Kmart...and again Walmart. My first day that I carried all day long. And you know what? Despite the chief of DCPD and all his crap about no firearms policies in the stores...I saw no signs. I am thinking he was quite exaggerating...

    Yay - cooler heads prevailed.

Thanks for the follow-up and taking the time to talk with the manager. We will need to do the same at several other places. Nice to hear a positive result already.

For those that missed it, I too went hunting for "no-guns" signs in DC on Friday. While OC'ing of course.

    Here is my re-posted results:

    Arrived and met my witness.
Went in, showed my rcpt and DL, signed their rcpt/tag, got photo copies, spoke with the officer for 10-15 minutes and we departed.

Went to Harbor Freight with my witness (CCinPA). After which we parted ways and I set out to hunt for "NO GUNS" signs, do some shopping and get a bite to eat.
I checked well over a dozen restaurants, many stores and only found one no guns sign at Denny's on RT 6. I took a pic w/my cell phone I'll post later.
I stopped at Borders Books since they were on the "list" according to the news article. I get out and go look at the door - no sign... So I went in and browsed for a while No issues.

Here is the list of places in Dickson City that I OC'd tonight, without incident:

    Dickson City Police Dept.
    Harbor Freight
    PetSmart
    Borders
    Kmart
    Wal-Mart
    Long John Silver's
    Circuit City
    Sheetz
    Target
Numerous parking lots while examining entrances to businesses. (OCB, Olive Garden, Denny's, The Diner on RT 6, etc etc etc)

Roger doing some recon work. Nice job...too bad the manager didn't welcome us back. I guess I can see what he's saying. He probably had to deal with a lot of paperwork and phone calls/media etc.

I am still overwhelmed by the hospitality of Charlie Browns. We'll have to do some hunting in the Scranton are for a new "family friendly" restaurant. CB's is nice but a tad bit expensive. Roger spent $3 on a coke!

In reality, he didn't say he wouldn't welcome us back. It was a feeling I got in talking to him that life would just be easier for him to not have to deal with such a situation again and I can understand it. I suggested that we wouldn't have another meeting there and he just seemed relieved. He did say that he, himself, really would have no issues but he was just in a bad spot.

    "F" him.

It would be easier if crime would go away, too, so that I wouldn't have to worry about carrying at all.

He sounds like the typical "take the path of least resistance" sort of chap to me.

Must be why he works there.
