I agree with you 100%. This happened years ago when I first started carrying, and I wasn't familiar with many of the laws like I am now. Also, note that I said I didn't agree with being disarmed

If this had happened now, I would inform the officer that for the record I am not consenting to being disarmed, searched, or having my property seized for any reason, but will comply as the law says I have to.
IMHO, a person makes the right choice, when they decide how to proceed, while aware of all their rights. If you chose to act that way, then no one can tell you different

Therefore, if you are stopped on the street for a 'Littering' violation, it does not give the Officer the right to frisk your person for weapons or contraband. Nor, if you are stopped in your vehicle for speeding, does that give an Officer the right to frisk you or search your vehicle.
The courts have made a distinction between the issue of FRISKING/SEARCHING and the issue of 'FIREARM CONFISCATION FOR OFFICER SAFETY'....

    TO THE OP.....
Be sure YOU know the difference!!

Yeah. It sucks that the fact that there is no duty to inform carries no weight with so many LEOs and fucks us in the same way preemption was supposed to protect us from. Too bad they didn't include LEOs in the wording of 6120:
No county, municipality, township, or Law Enforcement Officer may in any manner regulate the lawful ownership, possession, transfer or transportation of firearms, ammunition or ammunition components when carried or transported for purposes not prohibited by the laws of this Commonwealth.

The great thing about the trooper incident is that I was not even involved in the incident he was there for. He insisted I become involved in an interaction and, after that was done, he was actually leaving when he saw the gun. I was just there to give a ride to someone after their car was towed...

I have been thinking about this topic since I just got approved for my LTCF. This is my plan in the event of a traffic stop:

Keep my hands in plain view at all times when the officer approaches the vehicle. No fast or sudden moves. When he asks for license and registration, hand him my LTCF along with the driver's license. Then tell him something like "I wanted to show you my permit just for your information."

I think the majority of police officers would appreciate the heads up, and showing him the permit isn't as alarming as saying "I have a gun."

While I can certainly appreciate the OP's concern about being a " newbie " and possibly launching himself headlong out of the pan and into the fire during an encounter with a LEO, I personally have decided that I will not volunteer ANY information that is not directly asked of me or is relevent to the encounter. The " officer safety " line carries no weight with me, and the mere fact that I may be legally and lawfully carrying a firearm does not IMHO give rise to have the officer automatically leap to the conclusion that Im a threat to him or her. All that being said, I only reached that decision after an intense amount of studying, introspection and some of my own recent run in's with overzealous LEO's in the PSRNJ. It is not something someone should enter into lightly, particularly if one isnt extremely comfortable in their knowledge of the law and willingness to politely confront an Officer who many times isnt going to appreciate the blow to their ego when they run into an educated and strong willied civilian that knows their rights. Proceed with caution.

Yep..... as I said at the end of that post....
