    Question Safe Deposit Box

My wife and I are working around a small snag with daily carry for her, possibly for me too if I start a job where she is. Her job has her park on federal property where she can't have a firearm in her car, but once off location which she is very often for the workday it would be good for her to have it with her. So a simple workaround appears to be to have a place to drop off and pick up. I'm thinking a bank safe deposit box would be ideal for this, simply having her sidearm in a discreet looking case about the size of a phone book, maybe leather so it looks more like a ledger, which wouldn't attract any attention bringing it in and out. Simply unholster, unload, and put back in the box and drop off at the bank which is a block away when going back onto federal property, then pick up and do the opposite when back out. It would add maybe 5 minutes to the daily routine.

Anyone here have this kind of arrangement? I've read here and elsewhere about having NFA items like silencers in safe deposit boxes for storage when out of state. What does it cost to have a safe deposit box for such use?

Banks have different sizes of boxes at different rates..

Some even offer you a free "small-size" box if you have a certain account there. Like I know one bank has like a "seniors plus" checking account or something like that name...special perks for folks over 50, which includes a free box, free money orders, free checks, etc.

You might check into this if you have an account at the selected bank...or if they have any other special perk accounts of course, your age might not qualify you for any special things like this.

What WF said. I have a bunch of silver buillion in mine and have thought about more than once. Also sometimes you have to wait to get to your box. Also, is the bank open when she goes to work?

A few years ago this wouldn’t have been even worth posting but the times are changing and we all better hope it doesn’t get worse when such things could happen. During such crazy times your firearm could even disappear as other have lost stuff in their boxes during this times when third parties have access to safe deposit boxes.

In PA there is a “Preservation & Protection of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms in a Motor Vehicle act" sponsored by Rep Jeff Pyle that is in the works modeled after the Florida version, to deal with having firearms in parking lot.

I would run any idea by the bank manager before renting a box for every day storage or firearms. Once in a while it wouldn't be noticed everyday it might, why take the chance?

Since she is parking on Federal Property, how will this Act help her out? Granted, I haven't read this act, so not sure what it says either.

edit: Nevermind, this Act will NOT help her out in any way.

Just realized...your location says you are from NY. So I guess it is possible for folks to get a carry permit in NY

Even though it's not good in NYC

It's very possible, though the process totally stinks. We're actually in the middle of the process now and a few things like this require planning ahead so that's what I'm doing. As for the NYC thing, that may be successfully struck down by lawsuit in the future but we don't plan on going there much if at all. I don't like the idea of having my sales tax dollars funding Mordor.

Check with your bank about what you want to do before leasing your safe box. My bank specifically states "no firearms" aloud in safe deposit boxes.

IDK. What is in your box is private and nobody can get in it without a court order. I think it is a good idea if you have more than one, just in case you run into a situation where you can't access it for some reason, you would have another at home. I think your plan will work for you, just tell them when you rent it that you want to store some important stuff that you will need daily access to. My box is a larger one, about 10 x 6, and it runs me $55 a year. Good luck.

The property itself is posted explicitly no firearms. However, I think we can look around the facility to see the nearest place just outside the gate. Better still she has a specific vehicle she uses for during hours work, so she could perhaps park her car just outside the gate, pull the work car up to it, grab the package, then get out and park her car inside the gate then walk back to the work car. This will only require a couple minutes walking distance and nothing more. I'll just have to see which of the 3 gates is best to park near and what route she'll take around it.
