Can I use .45 GAP in my SigSauer P220?
Can I use .45 GAP in my SigSauer P220? Meant to buy .45 ACP, but accidentially purchased a couple of hundred rounds of .45 GAP. I know it's not the recommended ammo for the .45 P220, but could I shoot it safely anyway?
As it's the same diameter and caliber, with just a shortened case I thought that maybe I could get away with it--any thoughts?

From what I know the answer is NO.
45 GAP was made for the Glock GAP. It is a different round than the 45 ACP.

I am pretty sure the answer is no. Here is a post I found elsewhere :
No. Guns are caliber specific and the .45 GAP and .45 acp are NOT interchangeable. Besides being too short the GAP actually develops a lot more pressure than the longer .45 acp.
With the ammo shortage, I'm sure you can sell your GAP's, maybe even for a profit
Good luck.

There is no "recommended ammo" for any firearm. A firearm is designed for a specific ammunition...that's about it.
I'm sure your Sig's manual will state something to the effect "Use only factory loaded .45ACP ammunition..."
Reckon your best bet is to try to swap that .45GAP ammo at the place you bought it or try to sell it. Or, you could buy a Glock 37.Well, pushed 60 too hard so now I am the big SIX-OH. Now I can be a real pain in the ass! And, who says growin' old isn't fun!!

Here's one for you, Could you shoot it in a .45ACP REVOLVER?
Specificaly a S&W 625? Full moon clips would take care of the headspace problems, but where is the pressure at on them?
Just asking, not really wanting to do it.

Re: Can I use .45 GAP in my SigSauer P220?
That's a really good question!
I did a Goggle search and found no definitive answers but there's quite a few folks asking the same question.
As far as the pressure, the .45GAP SAMMI spec is 22000. The .45ACP+P specs out at 23000, so as far as pressures, the revolver should be able to handle the .45GAP if it's rated for .45ACP+P.
I'm sure my Ruger Blackhawk Convertable could handle the .45GAP but I'm not going to buy a box to find out.
Boy, I must be bored on this Sunday morning...I've responded three times in a thread about a caliber I don't even own!Last edited by RoyJackson; July 12th, 2009 at 09:16 AM.
