Concealed automatically means open?
Hi group,
I'm curious, when one does receive a license to carry concealed, doesn't that really give them also the right to open carry?
I mean, open carry is permitted anyway, so having your LTCF doesn't mean you are required to conceal, right?

Re: Concealed automatically means open?
Not even if every cop you see tells you it does.
A LTCF allows you to carry concealed, and in a car, and in a GFSZ, and during a declared state of emergency, and it allows you to carry concealed in a state park(where concealed carry is required), among other things. You do need a LTCF to carry in any manner on the streets of Philly(concealed or open), but it does not in any way, shape, or form, require you to conceal....

Re: Concealed automatically means open?
Correct.
With an LTCF, you may still open carry.
ETA: sheesh. While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Re: Concealed automatically means open?
You can open carry in Pennsylvania, and you don't need a LTCF to do it. You do not need to carry concealed just because you have a LTCF.

The question has been answered, but I'll add another bit to it...
When you get your Driver's License, does that mean you can no longer walk to your destination? Or ride a bike?

Re: Concealed automatically means open?
I've read some of these but not all you listed, so thank you. I will check them out. Was this not a good question to ask? It was prompted by a different thread I was reading regarding the license. In the text below, you notice how they almost go out of thier way to be specific of calling the firearm "Concealed". So I was just trying to get confirmation from more knowledgeable folks.
"18 Pa.C.S. § 6109: Licenses
(a) Purpose of license.--A license to carry a firearm shall be for the purpose of carrying a firearm concealed on or about one's person or in a vehicle throughout this Commonwealth.
(b) Place of application.--An individual who is 21 years of age or older may apply to a sheriff for a license to carry a firearm concealed on or about his person or in a vehicle within this Commonwealth. If the applicant is a resident of this Commonwealth, he shall make application with the sheriff of the county in which he resides or, if a resident of a city of the first class, with the chief of police of that city."
Sorry if it was irrellevant.

Re: Concealed automatically means open?
It was not irrelevant at all, although it is a question that comes up on a pretty regular basis. The statute doesn't say that a License To Carry Firearms shall be for the purpose of requiring a firearm to be carried in a concealed manner, or requiring one to carry in a vehicle, it is necessary if you are going to engage in either of those activities. There are cops who will point to the statute and claim that it does indeed require that you carry concealed, but if that were true, then you would also be required to carry in a vehicle, and none of them will make that assertion.
There was no talking down to you, I re-post that list, from an old post I made, quite often. It saves me the time of looking them up every time.
