Saw a round rainbow today!
This was weird.
About 12:30 just happened to be looking almost straight up at the numerous and puffy clouds and saw a huge "flat" rainbow circling the sun. At first I just saw part of it then moved to a more unobstructed view and saw that it was a full circle around the sun.
As I said there were lots of clouds...no rain at all though... there must have been water droplets in those clouds I guess for the rainbow to form.
It had not been raining at all before this nor after.
This was the first time I ever saw a circular rainbow like this.
Very cool! It was not very prominent and I doubt I could have gotten a decent pic with my older camera.
Anyone else see this today or any other time?
And no, I did not have any July 4th beers yet today

I thought you could only see the full rainbow from a plane?

Re: Saw a round rainbow today!
Maybe you were just drunk and watching Jeff Gordon's car do laps on the big screen? ...or you were drunk and while you were throwing up in the toilet, someone flushed a pack of Skittles?
j/k, pretty cool man
I would say that it must be very rare to see such a thing. I just recall that in physics we learned about being able to see a full rainbow from an airplane."The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."

The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Re: Saw a round rainbow today!
Ha ha, yeah that makes sense. As I said it was about 12:30, so the sun was almost directly overhead, shining almost straight down thru these (water-droplet-filled (I assume) clouds.
Thanks, Headcase (and Dredly!) for the explanation and not re-enforcing the notion that I was bombed outta my freakin' head!!!

Re: Saw a round rainbow today!
All rainbows are circles.
I've seen pics taken from aircraft crews and the truly are round, you just usually don't see the whole thing.

ROFL... just having fun with you. I'm part Irish and the first time I learned rainbows were circular I was furious. Imagine all my little leprechaun friends never getting to that pot of gold? ^#$&@# I was more angry than an Obama supporter searching for their free rent.
