Default What the hey, my small OC story

I normally don't OC. I support OC but don't usually practice it. The only times I do it is in a more private setting like at home outside, or on my motorcycle, at the shooting range, etc.

Well, I was out riding last Sunday and someone from the one motorcycle board I go to got on me a bit about never posting pictures. We ride dual sport bikes (street and trail), so what you do is just snap pics of anything interesting or attractive looking on your adventures.

Even though it was kinda warm I had on a leather jacket to cover up my pistol and protect it from mud, dust, water, etc. Plus I had my camera in the pocket. Everytime I stopped to take a pic I got really hot because I had no air moving on me so I took it off. Sometimes people were around and sometimes they werent.

Ok, to the meat of the story. Encounters with other folks.

In the early part of the day I was around people I knew. They were surprised I had a gun and asked what I was carrying it for. Was I going to the range, hunting....? I said no, I just carry it for protection. Everyone just took it in stride, like I said I had a cell phone for emergencies, no different. This was the exact reaction I expected, and I got it. Usually things don't work that way.

The second part of the expedition was around people I didn't know. Not in public per say, but around small groups of people in the woods, along trails and such. Everytime I took my jacket off it was the same exact thing, everyone just stares. Like I'm walking around with a big blinking light on me or something. And NO ONE said a word. Honestly, this again was the expected reaction I thought of.

Now, I do have no doubt if I started carrying in open public..as in going shopping and restaurants I would receive more and possibly negative attention like alot of others but I'm not willing to do that, at least not now.

You should get much less attention in public. I get almost zero. You probably got more attention because you weren't in public, or maybe it's just soemthing about you.

I prefer CC but I've tested the OC waters a couple of times. Never had any issues. I put a lot of miles on the bike (motorcycle) while OCing. I get a little more comfortable with it every time. Good story, thanks for sharing.

My hair and my beard are wild and on top of that I'm completely out of shape (no mistaking me for a LEO).

I think I would have some interesting stories if I start OC'ing

I dunno about that! If I saw someone of your description OCing, I think the LAST thing I'd want to be doing is starting a confrontation. (Think Biker Bar).

And I get no notice or reaction at least 95%-99% of the time.

But when you do you really make it count, eh?

I agree that going shopping or out to eat you'd get less looks. People are so wrapped up in themselves and what they are doing that they simply don't notice or don't give it a second thought most of the time. If you're not ready then it's better that you do what you're comfortable with.
