Exclamation York Lost/Stolen Law Returning Tomorrow

I received the following email and briefly spoke with President of York City Council Joseph Musso. He believes that tomorrow there will be an attempt to bring back the proposed Lost/Stolen bill to action. Using the recent tragic killing of Ciara Savage, age 9 to lend support for the bill.

I will be there, and I will bring a few signs. I am hoping that a few of you can also attend. I know this is extremely short notice, in fact Mr. Musso told me that they haven't made the request to him as of yet. But he believes it is coming. And he is upset because this is exactly what they promised would not happen to us.

So it is my hope that a number of us can attend (87th PVI, you're one of our best speakers so I hope you can make it). And even if they do not bring the bill back to action, than we'll simply provide a pre-emptive strike to ensure it remains tabled until it expires. Or, we have it voted out...

Below is the email I received:

    ***

    Jason,

I am writing to advise you that it appears that Councilwoman Toni Smith intends to request that Bill 58, also known as the lost or stolen gun law, be removed from the table for action at the upcoming City Council meeting tomorrow night, Wednesday, May 20th. I am getting calls from gun control advocates and have been advised that community activists have been requested to attend the meeting in support of Councilwoman Smith. The move is obviously designed to take advantage of the recent death of an innocent 5 year old on Mothers Day.

I write to you because you may have the ability to advise those opposed to this legislation of the situation.

    Joseph R. Musso, President
    York City Council
    (717) 309-2079

The council meeting is at 7pm, but I am going to try to be there at 6pm. Earlier is better, because it allows us to co-ordinate some. However, I understand that for those working it can be a bit challenging.

What time is the meeting Jason? I'm pretty sure I can be there.

7pm is the meeting, though if we can get there at 6pm. It might be a better...

Not sure of my assignment load for tomorrow yet, but I'll try to be there for emotional support. Since I'm a member of the media and known by all the council, it would be best that I not voice my opinion.

    Is that considered appropriate?

If so, please feel free to post an alert where you feel it would be most read.

If you are unable to attend, please feel free to email me a letter with your name. I will print them out and turn them in, and if it's brief possibly read it before the council

I came home in the middle of a split shift today (and after voting) to find a note in my door from candidate Jay Andrzejczyk asking me to call him. He was alerting me of this very matter & asking me to rally the troops.

I then checked my e-mail & had messages from Joe Musso, and two of the members who previously posted to this thread.

I can make it but 6 would be pushing it for me. I'll be there by 7 though.

I hope to be there. Isn't this EXACTLY what Joe Musso said he didn't want to see happen!!!! "Oh, no"...they said..."..it would never just POP UP for a vote like that!"

The murder of that little girl being used for political gain is simply disgusting!

I will do all I can to ensure I am there. I can only hope that there are others of us able to rally together to show our extreeeeeemme displeasure with this turn of events!

I have confirmed that I can be there by 6-ish. I MIGHT have Mrs. Curmudgeon in tow. She works until 5:30, so it's iffy. But I will be there either way.

    Bring signs!
