Road Trip with Mikey
This afternoon Mikey and I braved the Friday traffic and the possibility of rain to take a ride up toward the Poconos in search of guns for sale. Actually, it was gun for sale, and Mikey had already made his arrangements to buy it. I was just going along to ride shotgun (so to speak). I will not steal his thunder about what he bought. Suffice to say I spent time but no money of my own at American Sport Shooting. I did pick out a shotgun for my father, who has been looking for one, so I got to buy a gun vicariously, anyway.
From there we proceeded on to Warner's Surplus so Mikey could learn the location for future reference. We were also in search of some ammo not to be found at A.S.S., and besides, we had time to spend. The ammo situation for our needs was about the same there, but we did each find a holster.
Mikey was about to turn into a skeleton from lack of food, so I suggested the pizza place next door. We walked in, ordered up a couple of slices, and retired to the rear of the building to eat our food. It was pretty quiet at that particular time of day, and besides the employees, we were the only ones there. We went up to the counter to pay, where there were two different people than the one who served us was there. Apparently they had no idea we were back there.
"Can I help you guys?"
We looked at one another confused for a second. Mikey said we just wanted to pay for our food.
"Ohhh!" Hey, isn't pizza free on Friday afternoons?" said the one guy to the other.
I said, "Or perhaps for guys carrying matching guns!"
The two guys did a double take, and then the one said, "Hey, whatcha carrying?" So we described our guns. We were both carrying SIG Sauer P220 Limited Edition Beavertails. It turned out both of them had LTCFs. The one said to me, "But isn't it illegal to carry it out in the open like that? My permit is for concealed." I asked him if he had it with him. He didn't, but the other guy did. He pulled it out to show us, and I asked him to find the word concealed on it. He couldn't.
We had an enthusiastic and friendly conversation for a few moments longer, discussing guns and open carry, and then it was time for us to ride off into the sunset in Mikey's Ford. Traffic was awful, but Mrs. Plinker had an adult beverage waiting for me when I got home, not to mention a good Pennsylvania Dutch dinner. The rain even cooperated and only rained hard while we were traveling, not when we had to get out and walk around.
Oh yeah. Up at Warner's Surplus, they must have been taking Rich's experience of locking himself out last week to heart, as there was a "team" out in the parking lot armed with a bent coat hanger getting into someone's truck. I think they were practicing lock out drills.
