Re: New gunsmith in Boothwyn
Useful information. Gunsmiths are a dying breed. Good ones are even more rare.

Re: New gunsmith in Boothwyn
I am going to contact him and see if he can help me out. I live close enough so it couldn't hurt. I just bought an old pump .410 about 2 months ago. Took it all apart, fixed a spring, cleaned it (looked like the 1st time in 20 years), put it all back to gether nice and lubed, and shot it today at the club. Just some table trap, nothing too crazy. I broke 43 birds out of 50 with it. Needless to say I am very happy with this little performer. It has some refinished wood that looks ok, not too great though so it may get a re-do. Only problem with this gun is the metal finish. The receiver is pitted and hardly has any bluing left. The barrel is missing a lot of bluing too. Hopefully I can get a decent price for him to fix'er up.

Re: New gunsmith in Boothwyn
I just had first hand experience with Ron in having him place a small part back on a pistol that had dislodged. Very quick overnight service, although an easy job for someone that knows what he is doing. It appears that his base shop rate for openers is only $25. Dirt cheap if that is the case. I know two full time working gunsmiths that have minimums of about $45 to walk in the door and don't even ask them how long it is going to take to get your gun back. And these individuals are my friends of mine.
It is obvious that the cost of re-bluing depends on the depth of the finish and how involved the smith is going to get in the prep work. The prep is the devil in the details. You may look into getting your firearm dura-coated which is a spray and baked on process that is quite durable and thicker than re-bluing. I don't know if Ron does that kind of work.
By the way, Ron asked how I got his name and I mentioned this site. He never heard of it.

I'll definitely check this guy out. I need to get my 870 tapped for a rail ontop and he seems like just the guy to do it! Thanks for the info OP.
