Re: New RNC Chairman: Michael Steele
From what I understand he was one of the people who worked most closely with Gingrich when the Reps took Congress back for the first time in 40 years. It could get interesting, I believe that he is an actual conservative.

Steele is conservative. I don't know all of his voting record, but I've always been impressed by him.

From what I've heard he's ok on the 2nd ad but does not like "assault weapons".

Lets see.
Grew up poor..
When to Johns Hopkins University
Taught freshman world history and senior economics..
Holy Crap.. Did the Republicans finally get a brain? I'm impressed..He also has the added benifit of not looking like the typical White Old Dude on TV that they've had for the past few years.. (no its not racist, and its not fair, but hey public opinion is the suck.. lol)
Believe it or not, I hope they really are starting to realize they need to drastically change their approach and image to advance their ideas.. The current
method is outdated, and being destroyed by the Democrats atm.. I may disagree with a lot of what he believes in, but you need that to balance out the far left.. So
in theory you have a a more moderate, and balanced government..

Re: New RNC Chairman: Michael Steele
bah reposted this in news section- can mods disregard?
I'm not thrilled on this choice, and it smacks of showboating by the Republicans, but that is how it's done. You parade out the trojan horse, and wait for the public to take it in, then you unleash your agenda when they are sleeping.
You can talk about change until the cows go home, or you can adapt to the realities of the situation and overcome. Perhaps this is a demonstration that the Republicans can do that. The big R has to overcome it's image as a bunch of old men sitting around polishing their monocles at a board meeting.

Re: New RNC Chairman: Michael Steele
No, unfortunatly been following and participating for a while now. I think the Republicans in their scrambling attempt to "rebrand" the party are trying too hard too fast. Steele is a good choice but public perception is a hard thing to overcome. Granted, the GOP is damned if they do, damned if they don't for the next 8 years.
Yes, 8.
