According to a Marine Pilot:
According to a Marine Pilot:
In addition to communicating with the local Air Traffic Control facility, all aircraft in the Persian Gulf AOR are required to give the Iranian Air Defense Radar (military) a ten minute 'heads up' if they will be transiting Iranian airspace.
This is a common procedure for commercial aircraft and involves giving them your call sign, transponder code, type aircraft, and points of origin and destination.
I just talked to a guy who overheard this conversation on the VHF Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz while flying from Europe to Dubai. It's too good not to pass along. The conversation went something like this...
Air Defense Radar: 'Unknown aircraft at (location unknown), you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself.'
Aircraft: 'This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace.'
Air Defense Radar: 'You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!'
Aircraft: 'This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter. Send 'em up, I'll wait!'
Air Defense Radar: (no response ... total silence)

I love when countries/people get called on their posturing. Iran is thumping their narrow chest and trying to act tough.

Re: According to a Marine Pilot:
Hmmm I wonder how THAT would end...
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

In order to get intelligent answers you must speak intelligently.

Re: According to a Marine Pilot:
Iran has some fairly respectable fighters... Mig 29's, F-14, SU-25's but they wouldn't even make it off the ground before targeted and dropped by the FA-18.
plus not many planes fly by themselves, so figure its at least 2 FA-18's... thats a whole lot of air to air ass whoopinThe first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. Re: According to a Marine Pilot:
The F-14's were sabotaged by the technicians when they left in 1978-79.
The F-14's even if they could get spare parts, the aircrafts missile launch system is incapable of firing.
I guess we have a Major Gregory "Pappy" Boyington want a be on our hands.
Major Boyington stationed in the south pacific during WWII would routinely call out the Japanese to come up and play with him and his pilots.
These guys were know as the Black Sheep. Unlike the TV series portrayed them, they were by the book solid Marine pilots. Not the misfits they were made out to be in the TV series.
