Lawrence Colon, the brains behind a group of wannabe bounty hunters called Wargod Inc., is escorted into court Wednesday on weapons charges and impersonating a lawman.

Four wannabe bounty hunters were charged Wednesday with impersonating public servants after they failed to collar a fugitive but succeeded in infuriating their neighbors and terrifying the elderly.

The self-styled bounty hunters told police they worked for a fugitive recovery agency called Wargod Inc.

Texas bounty hunter: Wargod crew are 'idiots' Bounty bozo No. 5 arrested Bounty hunter impersonators arraigned On Friday, according to police, five members of Wargod searched for what one of them said later was a fugitive wanted for armed robbery. They wore black military fatigues, assault vests with empty holsters, and badges as they walked the streets of Stroudsburg that night, prompting emergency calls from concerned citizens.

At first, they were seen standing in front of a bar on Main Street in Stroudsburg, flashing cans of mace and handcuffs.

Then at about 9:45 p.m. Friday, the manager of West Gate apartments — a home for the elderly — dialed 911. The same five people were running up and down the halls trying to get inside one of West Gate's apartments, police said.

Meanwhile, state police — unaware of what was happening West Gate — arrived at Wargod's home base, a house occupied by Kelly Hefferon, 40, on Route 715 in Jackson Township. They were responding to the latest in a series of bitter complaints from neighbors about shots fired in the back yard and sirens sounding until after midnight.

Neighbors also told a reporter that they occasionally had seen the Wargod staffers armed, clad in black and marching in formation up and down Jackson View Road.

State police found Hefferon's two children and a friend there Friday night. One of them, a 16-year-old boy, was wearing a badge and an empty nylon holster. He and his friend said they also were fugitive recovery agents.

Just then, the five Wargod staffers, returning from their hunt at the home for the elderly, pulled into the driveway in a silver Ford Expedition, with a pistol-grip shotgun in the front seat, slugs rattling in the drink holder, and a red light on the dash.

According to police, Lawrence Colon, 39, explained that he was co-owner, with Hefferon, of Wargod. He also told police that he was licensed with the state, was training his agents, and that he was looking for a fugitive listed in the Pocono Record so that they could collect the reward.

Police later discovered that Wargod had only been assigned a tax identification number through the state. The company was not working for a court system or employed by a bail bondsman, as is required by law.

Colon and one of his cohorts, Darryl Normil, 21, were also convicted felons and, it was later alleged, carrying weapons, which is illegal for felons.

Colon's criminal record could not be immediately located. Normil had received a year's probation last year for theft and receiving stolen property. About six months later, he pleaded guilty to using another person's credit card without authorization. He was placed on parole and paid restitution for the charges plus court costs.

No charges were filed Friday, but the police investigation continued, as did the complaints from neighbors.

On Monday, state police returned to the same house responding to a property dispute. There, they saw Colon sporting a 9 mm pistol on his hip and Hefferon with a .40-caliber handgun.

On Wednesday morning, more than a half-dozen police cars descended on the house. Colon, Hefferon, Normil and James Farrell, 35, were arrested and charged.

A fifth member of Wargod, Anthony Laino, 35, is still at large and wanted by the state police at Fern Ridge.

The four alleged bounty hunters were charged before District Magisterial Judge Debby York. Most were clad entirely in black as they were led separately into the courtroom.

Farrell came first. He teared up as he awaited his arraignment and wept as he was escorted out to the squad car. He faces misdemeanor charges for impersonating a public servant.

Normil and Hefferon arrived second. Hefferon threatened to sue a photographer for defamation of character if her photo ran in the newspaper.

Normil sat confused in the lobby as he waited his turn before the judge. "I don't understand this. I'm trying to help them out, do them a favor," he said, referring to police.

Normil faces the felony charge for possessing a firearm illegally, the misdemeanor impersonation charge and summary charges for improperly using emergency lights and signals on his Ford Focus.

Hefferon faces all the same charges, except for the firearms charge because she has no prior record.

Colon, who faces impersonation and firearms charges, came in last with his combat boots untied and his wrists cuffed.

He managed to flip both middle fingers at a photographer on his way in, saying, "This is what happens when you try to be a bounty hunter in Pennsylvania."

Later, he called the charges, "bogus."

None of the four made bail, which was set at $100,000 each. They were sent to the county jail awaiting an Oct. 10 preliminary hearing.

    idiots for sure..

There are legal ways to go about being a bounty hunter professionally. And from the sounds of things, they didn't do any of them.

They are quite lucky they didn't pull that crap in other parts of the state.. they could have ended up ventilated trying to gain access to the wrong house.

WOW. Way too much time watching "Dog, the Bounty Hunter" on TV. Sounds like they even tried to dress like 'em.

Kinda goes back to the "stupid people shouldn't breed" thing, huh?

Assbags like this give good bounty hunters a bad name. There are people who conduct themselves professionally and 'Dog' was not one of them

Yeah, the one that gets pissed because OUR federal government didn't have the BALLS to go to Mexico and get a fugitive that had raped over 30 women. Then Doesn't have the BALLS to say no to Mexico when, after 3 years, they decide to arrest him (Due to his popularity) and ask for OUR Marshals to go to Hawaii.

I guess you believe that hunting down a wanted rapist and bringing him to justice is wrong because of some antiquated Mexican law. Maybe if bounty hunting was legal in Mexico, it wouldn't be run by drug cartels. The way I see it, the ends justified the means.

No I believe hunting him down was right. But since you brought up justice. Lets remember that he should never had the chance to do what he did because he is a convicted murderer and should have been executed or still in jail. IMO
