Personal firearm importation
Has anyone ever tried to import a gun to the United States. When I'm traveling I always try to stop and visit gun shops if I come across any. I have seen quite a bit of gun shops in Canada. Has anyone ever tried using a curio and relic license to import a gun. Obviously this would only apply to original guns more then 50 years old. I believe the atf will usually give a curio and relic an import permit but I never heard of anyone actually doing it. I have seen lots of old Winchester rifles up there.

Re: Personal firearm importation
I know a few guys that imported guns they brought home from Iraq. Customs wasn't very happy when they found the rifles hidden in the false bottoms of crates.

Re: Personal firearm importation
My Commander brought back two Martini-Henry rifles from A-Stan in 2011 using a form ATF6-II but that was for Military bringing curios home over 100 years old, he mailed them home. If you google the term "Requirements for importing new or antique firearms/ammunition" you should get the ATF page with all the hoops and rules you will need to go through, hope this helps.

That Hanger at Camp BORING Kuwait had a number of items that guys tried to get home, I loved the RPG and the handgun wrapped in aluminum foil in a cereal box There was a well though out method that was never tried by anyone nor am I advocating that I know to bring home an M-4/M-9/M249 that smelled of long jail sentences

Re: Personal firearm importation
Yes you can import a gun into the USA provided it meets current laws. There are importers here in this country that import rifles and pistols purchased in other countries here.
Simpson Ltd is an importer and has a great write up on the process and what you can expect:

At the end of the day unless it's something really special then it's probably not worth the bother.
Another dealer:

There are others as well.

Re: Personal firearm importation
I just missed a guy that mailed home an M60 piece by piece. The last piece he mailed was the grip and he got nailed. Leavenworth!!!
And to think, back then M60s were about $2K plus a $200 tax stamp.

Re: Personal firearm importation
There is a fellow I have heard about that lives in Texas that has a complete M-60 with Tripod and T&E along with mucho ammo living on the border but that was 30 years ago he must be in jail by now The walls in the Customs area in Kuwait are a monument to Soldier stupidity. Every time I went through there it was entertaining to see what was new on the wall.
