19 years old. Saved his squad by jumping on a grenade thrown in their humvee. Take a second, say a prayer.

They are burying this on CNN, IMO

I heard about that on the radio. I can't imagine a more selfless act. Prayers sent.

Re: Medal of Honor posthumously awarded
Two days, 1 post, sad. Thank you 625, for taking a second to remember a 19 year old who made a conscious decision to trade his life for four other lives, rather than save himself.

Beat you to it over a month ago, mate Thanks for remembering him a third time though.
RE: it being buried, YES. I wholeheartedly agree with you. CNN and other newsies have an ulterior agenda. Soldiers doing their jobs don't fit that; getting Obama elected and telling the world "how badly we are losing", with out actually going there, IS.
What is very interesting is the low #s of MOH recipients in this war. Undoubtedly some Navy Crosses/DSCs/Air Force Crosses will be upgraded....but apparently the mil is being stingy with the awards. We shall see. I hope that there will be more MOHs to recognize the valor o those troops. And I hope that soon, some won't be posthumous.
Read some of these. They are stunning.

Re: Medal of Honor posthumously awarded
I almost never go in the lounge, guess that's why I missed it
IIRC there have only been four so far, for OIF related service, two soldiers, one Marine, and one S.E.A.L. Three jumped on grenades to save team members, one clogged access to his AO and engaged the overwelming enemy force, relentlessly, causing heavy losses, and giving his team time to be reinforced, before taking a fatal head wound. All were awarded posthumously. These are the best of us, and they deserve to be wept over and remembered.

Re: Medal of Honor posthumously awarded
the bigger story isn't that so few MOHs have been given out, it's the systemic abuse of the awards system on a by-rank basis. I can't tell you how many guys I put in for awards only to have them shot down because they were only specialists and privates, and how many really simply worthless REMFs got bronze stars just for filling a slot on a roster. It was disgusting.

Re: Medal of Honor posthumously awarded
As a member of the Patriot Guard, I attended this man funeral service in December of 2006. We had close to two hundred PGR members there.
A friend of mine and fellow PGR member was invited by the family to attend the MOH ceremony.
Here's a couple pictures he took.

Re: Medal of Honor posthumously awarded
I watched the award ceremony on CSPAN thursday evening. I wish to tell you
you can get "choked up". The parents of the young man who gave his
life for others, as well as his sisters, can be very proud. It is our "duty"
not to forget this act of herosim and remind people that what we enjoy
today has been given to us by the courage of others. God Bless this
family and all the men and women of our armed forces who stand in harms
way.FUNDAMENTALS
