stopped in scranton

so, i'm on my way to the library on a lovely friday afternoon in scranton. my computer's motherboard got fried a few weeks ago, so i've been relying on the library's computer room to pay bills, check mail, and whatnot. anyway, i park my minivan, put 2 quarters in the meter, and start my walk down the block. i just left my daughter's preschool graduation ceremony, so i'm not really dressed to conceal, plus it's really warm out, and i don't feel like throwing my jacket on. when i got in my van, i just strapped on my holster, and decided to open carry for the day. there's a policeman coming my way. as i pass him, i give him a friendly nod, and keep walking. a few seconds later, he calls after me.

"hey! can i talk to you a minute?"

"sure," i reply.

"where ya headed?"

"the library."

"everything okay?"

"sure, why?"

"well, you do know why i stopped you, don't you?"

"uh, because i'm carrying a gun?"

"bingo! you got a permit for that, i hope?"

"i have a license to carry concealed, but i'm not."

"huh?"

"i'm not carrying concealed, i'm open carrying."

"any reason why you're doing that?"

i explained to him about the school thing and the weather thing. he nodded as i told him, seeming to be thinking about it. "well, that's all well and good, but you realize some folks are gonna get nervous about it, right?"

"i suppose some might, but i can't worry about them."

"whaddya mean? you don't care that you might scare the crap outta somebody?"

"no, i do care, but i can't worry about it. i mean, me being a dark skinned puerto rican is gonna scare some people in this town. some old lady last week wouldn't get in an elevator with me, and it wasn't because of a gun. should i worry about making somebody nervous because of what i look like, too?"

"i hear what you're saying. i just don't want you to catch any grief from people, like those guys got in dickson city, is all."

in my heart, i was grinning from ear to ear. i decided not to mention that i was there. "well, i appreciate your concern. you're being cool about it."

"whatcha got there anyway?"

"a smith and wesson sigma."

"a sigma? buddy, why didn't you get a glock?"

we spoke for a few more minutes about gun stuff, then he wished me a good day. and, i think it's important to mention, he never once asked to see my ID.

now, why can't cops in dickson city be as cool as cops in scranton?

That is exactly how a God damn lawful inquiry should be done. I wish you had posted his name, I would love to send him a gift for doing his job properly. Why is it so hard for some LEO's to understand the right way to do things? That officer should be chief of police.

Uh,

Why not send a letter to the local precinct describing the encounter in general terms and giving thanks etc.

OP, can you tell us if local or State or County etc.?
