Local Gun Club
Greetings all. I moved here from the PRNJ about 3 years ago, currently living in the Robinson Twp area. I'm looking for a local place to shoot, mostly pistol but I have an AR that needs to be tried out and some shotgun work that needs done as well. I've been to the Pitcarin range and it's great but with fuel costs being what they are I'm hoping to find someplace a bit closer.
Part of the issues is that I don't really know many people and the folks at work, for the most part, are somewhat anti-gun or don't understand why I feel the need to practice instead of leaving it in the nightstand and feeling safe.
Anyway, could anyone make any suggestions?

Re: Local Gun Club
Welcome
You can look here for a list of local ranges:
http://www.pafoa.org/forum/ranges-18...es-county.html
I believe that the Coraopolis Range is the closest to you. I think that the Greater Pittsburgh Gun Club is listed as being in Washington County but it's only a few miles from Pittsburgh Airport. So it should be pretty close to you.
I have only been to GPGC so I can't compare the two, but I do enjoy going to GPGC. It's open to the public where as the Coraopolis range is private.

Re: Local Gun Club
Greater Pittsburgh Gun Club is right out US-22 from you there - they are a nice place to shoot. I go there on a semi-regular basis.
They are located at 920 King Rd in Bulger, PA. King Rd is right off of 576.
Take US22 to 576
Go north on 576 one exit
Turn left off the exit.
GPGC is on the left about 1.1 miles down the road.

Re: Local Gun Club
I'll second Greater Pitt. Especially from where you live.
It is a public range.
$6 gets you all day shooting. AFAIK there is still not a website to get more info.
They offer(from the 2006 club schedule)
5 stand
2 skeets fields, 3 trap fields
sporting clays
400 meter rifle/pistol range
4 lighted pistol bays
1 covered pistol bay
100 yd sight in range
The schedule lists other options but I know they have not gotten back into full auto shooting or firearm rentals.
Call Tim the manager at 724 796 9111 for further information.
This is a pretty good range with fairly limited use. It needs some repairs to the covered rifle range shooting stations roof and a fair amount of general cleanup but I was at the 50 yd pistol bay yesterday and it was clean. Being a member, I generally start my range time with a policing of the old targets/trash that others have left knowing I would come along to clean up after them.
I was a member at Pitcarin/Monroeville and mistakenly thought meetings and work sessions were mandatory. I let my membership expire but won't pay to reinitiate as it is a bit far for me. I do make some of the group shoots but don't go on a regular basis.
If you have any questions, post up or call Tim.
