How to disassemble Stevens 94A?
Hello,
I apologize for this (more-than-likely) elementary question, but how do I go about separating the barrel from the receiver/stock?
As I posted in (this thread), I was interested in having someone take a look at two old shotguns I inherited from my grandfather. After receiving only one response from across the state (thanks blottermachine), I decided to take a look myself.
According to all exploded views and takedown videos I've watched, the barrel should pull off the receiver with ease once the barrel is cracked open. I thought I would ask before prying/pulling thinking something is just gummed up due to age.
Thanks!
Jeff

Re: How to disassemble Stevens 94A?
Here's some pictures of the barrel disassembled from the receiver and a you tube video. I have firearms assembly/disassembly manuals but the older 94 wasn't in it. This shotgun was on Gunauction http://www.gunauction.com/buy/125725...e-shot-shotgun
It appears that the fore stock spring assembly is still in position without the fore stock on your gun.You will probably need to remove the spring assembly before you are able to remove the barrel. The fore stock appears to be held onto the spring assembly by a single screw at the rear. Skip to 1:55 for the barrel removal in the you tube video.

Pull back on the barrel. That curved spring is what keeps the barrel taunt against the pivot pin within the action.

Re: How to disassemble Stevens 94A?
Thanks to all that replied. The video link that was posted shows the removal of the small screw from the front hand-hold, which for me I do not need to do. I only realized this after looking at the picture posted showing the curved tension piece still attached to the front hand-hold. Removing the screw pulled the hand-hold away from the retention spring so therefore I was unable to remove the barrel as there was still tension. Replacing the front screw allowed me to simply pull down on the hand-hold, as done with other SxS and break-actions, and remove the barrel.
Long story short, I was successful. I was simply too quick to use a screwdriver.
Thanks!
Jeff
