Default PA State Police report on security on PA college campuses

The Pennsylvania State Police Risk Vulnerability Assessment Team has released its report on the current state of security on the Commonwealth's college campuses. (Adobe PDF Document)

Thought some may find this interesting. Does not seem to mention allowing legal carry by LTCF holders, but does mention arming security people/police.

Well that's just peachy, because when seconds count, the cops are only minutes away!

Thanks for the report man - hopefully PSP can make some good use of it.

    Oh come on now.........

You can rest assured that if there is a shooting the police will be there in time to draw a chalk outline around your body..........

I'd say the closest PSP "compound" to my College is approx: 10 mins away....perfectly enough time for another VT incident. I leave my Glock at home. I've left it in my car a few times but I really don't like doing it so I just leave it @ home now. I hope one day I don't regret doing that.

I went to Clarion University and if something were to happen, boroughs station is on the edge of town so that'd take them about 4-5 min from there, sheriffs office is right in town but still be about 4-5 min, and the state would take about 8-10 min (given they are at the barracks). Most of the college cops I wouldnt trust with a firearm. haha.

If you don't want to risk CC at school, get yourself a lock box for the car. A year or two back I remember a bad guy being detained on campus grounds by a professor that ran to his car to get his handgun.

Lock box is a good idea....but they could always steal the lock box and get into it with a sledgehammer or something.

unless I missed something that report really didn't say anything that isn't already common knowledge...

    1. Surveillance is good

    2. Campus security is garbage

    3. College kids are lazy

    4. We haven't setup an emergency alert system yet.

What I would have found much more intresting would have been testing of security... How long can I leave a back pack or duffle bag in the open before someone says something, are there metal detectors or anything?

If you park on Campus you may want to ensure the rules don't give the school full permission to search your vehicle without cause, if they find a gun you may get in trouble...

    then again trouble > dead
