Default Buying a .22 rifle from a friend...

Noob question I'm sure, but I have't bought a rifle (other than my AR15) in years. A buddy of mine has a Ruger 22 he wants to sell. Can I just buy this from him or does it need to go through an FFL?

    Thanks,

If both of you are PA residents, and you're not prohibited, and the gun itself isn't stolen, then just hand him money and take the rifle. If that's how you both want to do it. No FFL requirement for in-state long gun transfers.

Wink Re: Buying a .22 rifle from a friend...

I aggree with Gunlawyer,I would like to add in addition and it is not law that you obtain driver license from buyer write it down on paper as to disposition of rifle/shotgun,date.Keep these records for God forbid firearm was ever stolen,The friend was not candid about being allowed to own firearms. Its called CYA ! Good luck,I do this with every transfer I do and keep all records if ATF shows up years down the road thinking I am still the owner of gun ! Also have buyer state in writing they are allowed legally to own the firearm.Good Luck/ MDT

Use the bill of sale from this forum, I have used it in the past and it's just good insurance.
