Default OC'd to the PTO fund raiser...

I just got back from the PTO skate night fund raiser at our local roller rink. I got a couple of turned heads in the parking lot, but that's it. Inside soccer mom central, I spoke with three PTO board members, a bunch of moms and dads, and a few teachers. Not one look at or mention of my firearm. What do you know about that?

So no one was scared or uncomfortable by your shoving your rights in their faces....

I honestly can't say if they were or they were not. What I can say is that while I was inside a skating rink, packed full of 1st through 5th graders, their parents, teachers, and PTO board members, with a now much more visible weapon(due to my new Serpa), and engaging said adults and children in conversation, not backed in a corner, or booth, but in full view of anyone who cared to glance down, none of them displayed or exibited signs of being either scared or uncomfortable.

I'll give you another "soccer mom" story from today......

My son comes busting in from riding his bike with the development kids, and asks if I can look at his friends bike. I go outside and this kid's bike is an uncared for mess. Brake cables undone from the handle, kickstand hanging by the last thread of the bolt, no air in his tires..... I ask him how his bike got so bad and he says his dad doesn't know how to fix it. So, I grab my Gerber multi, and get to work. A half hour later the bike is back in working order. I go into my trunk and pull out the mini compressor I keep in there, and I air up his tires. He says thanks and they ride off....

About ten minutes later, the boy comes back and asks if I can look at his other friends bike. WTF am I the bike mechanic now, I think to myself, but out I go. Outside, there are about five kids with their bikes all standing in a line. I give my son a look and he just shrugs. I look at the bikes a little closer. Flat tires, rusted chains, twisted around handlebars, a seat way too high...... Well, what the hell, it's nice out. I tell the boy off to go get the box of juice pouches from the fridge and get to work. Six flat tires later, I look up and there are four moms and a dad standing off to the side of my car. I have never met any of them before. One of the moms introduces herself, and they all start telling me how nice it is for me to help the kids out, and thanking me. The dad looks at my hip, and asks what I am carrying. I tell him(S&W.40VE in a Serpa CQC) and he says,"Cool.". One of the moms looks over at it and asks aren't I worried that it will fall out when I lean over. I show her how secure it is, and explain that I have to release it in order for it to pull free, so no worries about someone grabbing it. That's a neat design, she tells me. The guy tells me that he tried to fix the seat on his kids bike, but he is all thumbs with a wrench. All of this is now going on while I am kneeling on the street surrounded by a circle of adults and kids, fixing the last kids handlebars with my Gerber. Once I'm done, I send the kids on their way, say good day to the parents, and head back inside to a chorus of thank yous and see ya arounds.....

I think I may have gone from the dad with the gun, to the guy that fixes the bikes........
