Former area woman hit, killed by train

A local woman stationed at the Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri was killed Thursday night when she was struck by a train.

Alanna Dawn Ferrilli Close, 30, formerly of Paris, was struck by a Union Pacific train in Knob Noster, Mo.

Union Pacific engineer Michael Edmondson of Olathe, Kansas, told police he activated emergency horns and whistles when he saw Close on the tracks.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Johnson County coroner. A public affairs officer at Whiteman Air Force Base referred all calls to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Thank you, but there is no need to thank the Patriot Guard Riders, it's not about us.

It's all about the heroes we have the honor to stand for and remember.
