Where do you store your ammo?

Last week I finally picked up a fire resistant safe.

Picked up the FirstAlert Protector 6740F. Didn't want a digital combo lock, wanted something fire resistant for at-least 15 minutes, and needed enough gun storage.

Found it on Amazon, opened up a 12 month no interest card to put it on. (as long as it's paid full in 1 year, and no late payments are made)

Long story short, now that my guns are secure, I feel like I should get the ammo stacked in my bedroom someplace better. Almost considered getting an additional cabinet to accompany the safe for all the boxes of ammo I have.

Last thing I want is boxes of ammo walking off, as anymore, It's getting damn pricy.

Who puts ammo in secure storage? Right now, my only security is the bedroom getting locked whenever I leave the house. If someone breaks in though, like hell they wouldn't kick open a locked door.

Not sure how large the safe is or how many guns you have but I keep everything in my safe. Enough room for both.

Wish there was enough room, otherwise ammo just might live in there with the guns. Was expecting a bit more room out of this safe actually. Just barely fit my 28"O/U in there with the addition of a shelf above the long guns that holds the pistols.

Yeah, I was weary of digital. The digital ones come with some sort of key (in case the digital pad dies) 1) I don't want to have to deal with the digital pad dying, or worrying about batteries and 2) I felt, well hell, if it has a keyhole, it makes prone to being picked and opened! I've gotten pretty damn good with practice on opening up with the combo

Sadly the only cool dry space in the house (thanks to humidity) away from the safe is the Crawl space

For my ammo storage I have some in the floor of my safe and the rest in ammo cans.

I've been acquiring .50 cal ammo cans over the past few months that I've periodically sanded off the surface rust and markings and repainted. I then stenciled/painted the caliber on the side of them for organization. I then have one 10 gram silica gel packs in each can (they treat 470 cubic inches, less than the cans) and I'll change them every six months or so.

For my can with .22LR, I used some leftover truck bed liner to coat the inside, thinking it would be easier to clean... I just dumped the rounds in the can out of the box.

I would advise keeping your ammunition in another cabinet and not in your fire resistant safe. Putting the ammunition in your expensive safe can cause damage to your firearms when the temperature gets high enough inside the safe in the event of a fire. A locking metal cabinet is fine and relatively inexpensive.

Tragically, all of my ammo was lost in a boating accident. However, I used to keep it in its own fire resistant safe.

Someone here made a JOBOX into a safe. It is awesome.
