Default DVD in firefighter’s coat pocket blocks a bullet

Who would have thought DVDs doubled as protection from gunfire?

He was walking out of the Waffle House when a bullet from a fight hit him

WALTERBORO, S.C. - A South Carolina man is thankful for a DVD that ended up taking a bullet for him.

Colleton County Fire and Rescue Director Barry McRoy said he was leaving a Waffle House restaurant in Walterboro on Saturday morning when two men ran in fighting over a gun.

Police say a bullet hit one of the struggling men, shattered a window and then hit McRoy.

The bullet hit a DVD McRoy was carrying in his pocket. He suffered a bruise but didn't realize he had been shot. As he told a police officer what happened he noticed a bullet hole in his jacket, the shattered DVD case and a piece of the bullet.

"I was saved by a DVD," McRoy said. "How lucky can you get?"

One man was arrested on assault and battery and gun charges.

The DVD was nicked. The DVD — a gift from an employee who had recorded a TV show about fire extinguishers.

Cant say I am surprised... if you read it, it hit someone, shattered a window, THEN hit his DVD. That round was losing mad momentum by then (compared to muzzle velocity) I wonder if the entire bullet was even intact by then? Regardless, very lucky guy.

I don't want to get hit by any projectile flying towards me from a firearm regardless of momentum or the size of the project.

He's lucky that bullet was slowed down by other objects before it hit him.

Yep. that was my point.... I really wouldnt want to get hit by it either, but I am not surprised that something small like a DVD stopped the round from hitting him.
