Question on a Model 39-2
I hope this is in the right section. I just got my first handgun, a Mod. 39-2. Last night I attempted a fieldstrip for the first time to clean it. I took out the slide stop and slide came off no problem. Then I took out the spring and spring guide. I turned the slide upside to take the barrel out and I couldn't figure out how to do it. I printed out a manual that outlines most S&W pistols, but it never explained how the barrel comes out. Can someone help me?

Re: Question on a Model 39-2
there is a piece at the end of the barrel you have to turn (1/4 turn) and remove.

Re: Question on a Model 39-2
Are you talking about what is referred to as the barrel lug?

Re: Question on a Model 39-2
The part is really called a barrel bushing. And like I said when you are holding the side in your hand turn the end of the bushing where the bullet would come out and try pulling on it and it should come out then you can remove the barrel.

But some people call it a barrel lug but it's called a barrel bushing.

Not that the members here aren't competent enough to answer your questions, because they are excellent. But you will probably be better off with getting more responses and more versatile knowledge over at the S&W Forum.
