I own two Rem. 700's and a Rem. 600 Mohawk. If the trigger is not correctly adjusted, they can fire when closing the bolt and/or when taking the safety off. Having said that, I very much like these rifles and am considering purchase of a third Rem. 700. I believe the newer 700's allow you to work the bolt without having to take the safety off. I am not familiar with the new X Mark Pro trigger, so the above applies to the older 'Walker' trigger.

Regardless of the firearm, every gun is to be treated as if it is loaded and never pointed in the direction of another person (self defense is the exception).

A safety is a mechanical device that will eventually fail, on any gun. Always keep it pointed in a safe direction.

i have several 700's, never had a problem with the triggers other than to much poundage needed to pull them. to the misses a firearm is only as safe as the operator.

Keep it pointed in a safe direction and it's as safe as any other firearm.
If that doesn't work try hitting her.
Someone was going to say it anyway.

I have four Remmy 700's and none of them has ever given me a problem.

BTW that story was dug up and recycled from many years back, so apparently they had nothing new to write about and decided to attack the 700 again.

Get a Savage 110 and have better accuracy out of the box and not have to worry about the trigger system.

my only question is why is your wife reading or watching the news? if she doesnt have enough chores to keep her busy you need to find something else for her to do.
