When did ammo get so expensive?

i havent needed to pay for ammo in about 15 years or maybe even longer.

so in the olden days i used to buy reloads for about $3.50 a box for 38 spl with traded in brass and .45 acp was about $6 a box with trade in.

now the prices have more than doubled.

factory ammo has gotten silly too. i used to get 9mm fmj case lots for about $5 a box.

is it the cost of labor or is there an ammo shortage?

I started shooting around July of '08 (the height of the Obama craze. but I'm glad I did). Ammo prices to me are only getting better!! There was a period of about 3-4 months when I couldn't even find 9mm, let alone try to pay for it.

I remember when I first started shooting 9mm ammo, it was 7.00 a box for S&B. Blazer Brass was about 9.50 a box, and even the best/most expensive FMJ ammo was still cheaper than most of the cheap ammo now adays. Now a box of 9mm S&B cost me about 12-13 dollars.

I used to be able to pick up my .30-06 ammo for about $12 a box, now if you find it for less than 18-20 you are doing good.

It's BS is what it is. Another subliminal form of gun control IMO.

those guys need some marksmanship training.

it was 50000 rounds per enemy killed in vietnam. now it is 250000 rounds per enemy killed. sounds like a lot of spraying and not much praying to st gabriel possenti.

give me 250000 rounds of 223 and ill be a happy shooter for years.

I'm actually surprised you were able to compose yourself enough to start this thread. If I hadn't looked at the price of ammo in 15 years, I'd probably have a stroke after seeing how things have changed.

Heh. Since I had been out of work, I hadn't really looked at the prices in over a year, so I may be just as shocked as the OP when I can once again afford to buy some ammo.

I'm just afraid that by then, I won't be able to afford it. LOL
