HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — FBI Director Robert Mueller on Monday criticized the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent ruling that Americans have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting, saying it may harm efforts to deter violent crime.
Speaking at a convention of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators in Hartford, Mueller said the ruling “does throw a lot of things up in the air.”
By a 5-4 vote last week, the nation’s highest court struck down the District of Columbia’s 32-year-old ban on handguns, the first major pronouncement on gun rights in history. It upheld the right for communities to license guns.
Mueller said communities will have to determine their own license programs. As a former Marine who served in Vietnam, he said “I tend to believe weapons harm people and more often than not they harm the people carrying them.”
With his grandchildren going to college, Mueller said he hopes “those campuses will be weapons free.”
Mueller said the FBI’s top priority remains counterterrorism, counter-intelligence and protecting the secrets of the United States.
He said college campuses and small communities could be “potential incubators of terrorism” even while major cities such as New York and Los Angeles remain primary targets for terrorists.
“The fact is we can’t rule out any community in the United States as a potential incubator of terrorism,” Mueller said.

Re: FBI Director Critizices Supreme Court on 2nd Amendment Ruling
This guy's comments are almost too stupid to comment on.
"As a former Marine"~ Umm....Once a Marine, always a Marine-stupid. Well, with beliefs like these, maybe they kicked him out?
"I tend to believe weapons harm people and more often than not they harm the people carrying them.”~ Wwwwwhat?! Iwould really love to see the basis for that idiotic statement. I tend to believe that the FBI director should STFU and stick to doing his job...
"those campuses will be weapons free.”~ Do I even need to respond to this quote?
"He said college campuses and small communities could be “potential incubators of terrorism” even while major cities such as New York and Los Angeles remain primary targets for terrorists.
“The fact is we can’t rule out any community in the United States as a potential incubator of terrorism,” Mueller said"~ So what is he trying to say here? His grandchildren are going to be indoctrinated as terrorists? Or is he laying the groundwork for some fantastic new policy of raiding private citizens all over rural America..... No wonder we don't really catch any real terrorists in this country....
"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty
than to those attending too small a degree of it."~Thomas Jefferson, 1791

Re: FBI Director Critizices Supreme Court on 2nd Amendment Ruling
It's very disconcerting when people in that position say things that are so stupid. I'm doubly disconcerted that he is a Marine, who should know and expect personal responsibility.
The Heller decision has absolutely no impact on anything he speaks of. Anything that was going to happen, was going to happen regardless of the decision. As for his kid going to college that is "weapons free", I guess he forgot about VT already?
He acts as if the Heller decision is going to force guns on people.

Re: FBI Director Critizices Supreme Court on 2nd Amendment Ruling
This should automatically qualify him for REMOVAL. Where do we find all these dumba$$es ??
I find it unbelievable that we still have any gun rights left when we see the proliferation of these Anti Constitutionalists everywhere in our government both elected and appointed. Unfortunately it all starts in the public schools where kids are indoctrinated to think the anti and socialist way. The signers of the Declaration and
Constitution are most likely having a migraine.Last edited by PocketProtector; July 1st, 2008 at 01:35 PM.

Re: FBI Director Critizices Supreme Court on 2nd Amendment Ruling
Most college campuses are already incubators for terrorism. They are infested with liberal, anti American professors and administrators with an anything goes, blame America first mentality. It has nothing to do with weapons, it has to do with ideas, mindset, and culture. The culture of the college campus today is overwhelmingly liberal, and is the place where ideas are instilled in young minds.
This guy is the typical bureaucrat who doesn't think, but rather knows how to manipulate the system to get where he is today.
