KVVU: Southwest flights on the C concourse were put on hold at 4:47 p.m. after an airport employee found the gun at about 4:40 p.m., said McCarran spokesman Glenn Gardner. Gardner said the owner of the gun was located soon after, and the hold on the flights was lifted at 5:02 p.m. Metro police spokesman Bill Cassell said the gun belonged to a female law enforcement officer from a jurisdiction in another state who was leaving Las Vegas.

I think this talks more about complacency of humans when they deal with something every day. It should also be taken as a lesson for firearm owners. The officer might look at that firearm as just another accessory they need to carry because of work. It's background noise, and when their routine is broken, so are the habits associated with the firearm. It happens with so many things, driving, working with power tools, anything that requires an extra moment to do safely.

    In short, don't be complacent.

I just can't imagine how you could forget your gun. I always do a four point check: Keys, wallet, cell phone, gun. I can maybe imagine setting my cell down on a table and forgetting it, or even leaving my wallet on a store checkout, but your gun? I have never forgotten where a firearm is. I know where all of them are all the time. I make sure of that, and I just can't imagine forgetting my weapon.

It's not all that uncommon among people that are as comfortable with a gun on them as they are with keys. I'm not saying it is okay, in fact, it is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Nevertheless, I've seen it happen several times.

Discipline and little rituals like this should make it a non-issue for people. Forgetting important items an easy problem to avoid. Good stuff.

I find it hard to understand how anyone who decides to carry a firearm, does not factor in how their method of carry works when you need to use a restroom. You will never read about me forgetting my firearm in a public restroom because it never leaves the holster, and the holster never leaves my belt.

I'm sure the hangover had NOTHING to do with it, or she may have still been drunk.
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

...and she'll be fired how soon? And what charges will be filed?

Again, I wonder what would happen to Joe Citizen in the same situation.

I agree that she should be fired, or seriously formally reprimanded if she was an otherwise outstanding officer. But, what charges would you recommend?
