Single-shot AR lowers?
Does anyone know anything about the single-shot AR lowers? I realize this is a stretch for most people here since these lowers are really only intended for the poor bastards that live in the People's Republic of Commiefornia, but I couldn't help but wonder if this wouldn't be an ideal lower for the FAR-50 upper that I am preparing for.
The two I've found thus far are from DPMS and Safety Harbor firearms. Aside from the fact that they cost more than a regular lower are there any disadvantages or advantages to using one over a regular AR lower.Last edited by Cheeseybacon; January 27th, 2008 at 03:15 PM.

Re: Single-shot AR lowers?
a disadvantage is you could never turn it into a AR15 other than single shot obviously
A plus could be maybe it weighs alittle less and since you are using a .50 upper you wouldn't have to deal with a useless mag release or bolt catch

Re: Single-shot AR lowers?
That's pretty much the only reason I can see getting one at this point. I love the idea of a cheap bolt-action .50 BMG AR upper, but I don't like having a vestigial mag and bolt catch hanging on. It would definitely streamline it some and make it look more like a stand-alone gun and less of a conversion.
Oh well, I already have a lower for it anyway. Besides, if I go getting a single-shot lower then that means I'll have another regular AR lower than will need built into a rifle. That would both suck and be awesome.

I'm going to try calling Safety Harbor firearms tomorrow. I e-mailed them a question late last week and haven't heard from them yet.
If they are able to accommodate me, I might just have a spare upper that will need a new home. We'll see what happens. It's a Stag, if that matters.

Re: Single-shot AR lowers?
I don't know if this helps but they do make single shot followers for AR mags for when you want to manually insert the round.

Re: Single-shot AR lowers?
Look into DPMS
They make a dedicated single shot lower, commonly used for the .50 upper conversions.
