    Default First police encounter

Was stopped by PSP Sunday evening after an afternoon in the woods. Got in my van and proceeded down road and did not get 1/4 mile and I notice lights in my mirror. He proceeded to tell me to get out of my van he wanted to show me something. He showed me the fact my van license has been expired since Jan. He then asks me what kind of gun I had (was OCing) Glock 19 was my reply. He then asks me if it is loaded, YEAAAAAAAAAH I replied (in a tone that would be like, DUH what good is it unloaded). He then informed me I had to get my act together this week and take care of my license AND insurance. I suspect I still have a fine coming for a expired license. I blamed it on my wife(which is not a lie and she will admit it).
I also had my Bushmaster M-4 with 2000+ rounds in the van, and a Mossberg shotgun with about 500 rounds also. Another 500rds of 9mm too. What can I say it is my Hunting/Shooting van. But he never knew that was there.
We even talked a little turkey hunting. As thats what I told him I was doing. (scouting)
This is my first post, thought this was a good time to sign up to post. I have read other peoples encounters so thought I should share mine.

Not a bad encounter. Did he ask to see your LCTF? Also I wouldnt fear the ticket if you get things together. Usually they give it to you right then and there. And the fact that he stuck around to bullshit a little bit is a good thing also. I would just get it taken care of and then take it up to show him. Usually the tell me that is how it has to go down or else I get the ticket.

A Pennsylvania State Trooper asked you to step out of the vehicle and walk to the back, where he showed you that your tag was expired, and THEN he asked about your gun? Sweet if this is true, but my hand is on the flag, and I am about ready to call bullshit.

We can only hope. It could be related to being raised in a firearm friendly household (possibly with multiple hunters).

I could swallow asking about it and then taking him back, but going through the whole interaction, and then mentioning it, sounds like BS to me. I can't imagine a PST being that unobservant, and I can't imagine one who would just ignore an openly carried firearm during a traffic stop. I am not saying at all, that they aren't getting better info on how to handle the situations, but ignoring it completely, then casually mentioning it, during a stop where the carrier is now outside the truck? My leg ain't long enough to pulled that far. I would have to see it, or hear from a PST that that was the new SOP before I believe that one.
