Son promoted to HT 1
Just received word that our son was promoted to HT 1 last week. Only 81 individuals were promoted in that rate this cycle in the entire Navy.
He also received his second Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
Guess you know how proud we are of him. He has been in 9 years already and is planning on re-enlisting for another 5 years in January.

Re: Son promoted to HT 1
An HT is a Hull Technician, an HT1 is a First Class Petty Officer, the same pay grade as a Staff Sergeant in the Army or Marine Corps.
An HT takes care of the physical coodition of the ship. Maintaining and repairing decks, bulkheads, and plumbing systems and just about anything else that isn't electrical. Welding, cutting, running pipes, non-destructive testing are all part of the job.

Re: Son promoted to HT 1
Stupid Navy and their stupid rates....... You ask one what their grade is, you get some stupid combo of letters and numbers. You ask one what their rank is, you get the same stupid combo. I don't care if you wash officer balls for a living, just tell me what your damn military pay grade is
I worked with Seabees and Navy trainees and the only time me and the Jarheads (Marines from next phase over) weren't fighting was when we were smoking Marine trainees, or making fun of Squids..
Seriously, congrats to your son on a job well done
