Is it time to organize?
It's just a thought. I've been trying to read pretty much all the posts here. I also try to keep up with the topic as much as I can. One common thing that I've noticed is that a lot of threads end up turning into haphazard attempts to inform the masses with letters, calls, etc. The effort is fantastic, the intent is great, but the end result is not as structured as it could be. It seems we all try to do our own things, and then ultimately end up turning to Rich to clean up our messes.
What I'm thinking is that maybe we need some official structure so we can better coordinate the sending of letters, collection & dissemination of literature, placing of phone calls, organizing of gatherings, etc. Nothing too formal... maybe a few officers and/or board members and then general members. If interest grew, the structure could be more involved; but it's certainly not necessary.
Unfortunately, I would imagine that such a thing could be difficult to organize and would be time consuming to maintain. I'm sure that it would cost at least a little bit of money (and probably (as everything does) end up being expensive). But, if interest is there, it certainly would be beneficial.
Then again, maybe I'm wrong and there isn't the interest needed to support such a thing. Post up your feelings!

Re: Is it time to organize?
I think there is an organization in place already, PAOPENCARRY.ORG.
It might be better to get with Rich and see if interested people can volunteer time to get things more active, I.E.:
Mail facts to every sheriff's office and announce the organization
Co-ordinate information
Blah blah blah....
I know he is personally busy with a ton of issues he is involved in, so he may welcome help from volunteers......

Re: Is it time to organize?
Another thought, however weak it may be...
Ever hear of Groundhog Day? Pennsylvania Phil? Ever hear of Oshkosh, WI? Sun & Fun in FL?
Everyone here knows what Groundhog Day is, even though it is celebrated in Punxy. (huh?)
Oshkosh and Sun & Fun were created to bring attention to experimental aircraft, homebuilts, etc. and draw THOUSANDS of people every year. It worked.
Perhaps there needs to be a celebration of our rights in PA once a year.
Find a small town (with lots of fields surrounding it!) that is OC friendly and needs an influx to its economy.
Sell vendor booths to gun shops, etc. Then invite everyone in the United States who can legally carry in PA to join us for a 3 day weekend of celebrating our rights!
The media would pick up on it immediately, making everyone aware that OC is legal (no matter what angle the media takes on it, they would be inadvertently educating the masses).
Use the money from the vendors to advertise the event and to provide such niceties as porta-johns and insurance.
It would start off small, but can you imagine where it might be in 5 years? 10 years? Some of you may have heard of Thunder in the Valley in Johnstown, PA. It was started in 1998. This year there were hundreds of thousands of Harleys attending the event.
My word, the opportunity for this type of event is astounding. Rent a camping spot for $10.00 per night. Agree to give the land owner $7.00 per night if he provides the porta-johns.
Run it like the business it would soon turn into. Educate the masses and at the same time build funds for future educating!
Ok. I'll stop now. Haven't had a coherent thought in 9 years anyhow...~ Luke... Come to the dark side... We have cookies! ~

Re: Is it time to organize?
My 2 cents...
I do not want to see a PAFOA endorsed OC group. There are already groups for that. PAOD and OCDO.
I would prefer to see PAFOA stay neutral in the CC/OC debate. Discussions about it are fine with me, but I'd prefer not to have it "sanctioned" by PAFOA.Μολὼν λάβε

What a misleading title. I thought someone was preparing for a revolution!

Re: Is it time to organize?
I could be wrong, but I thought paopencarry.org was more of an educational website than an organization. Not saying it couldn't be morphed into one, but that is 100% the decision of Rich.
As to having it associated with PAFOA, if the PAFOA powers-that-be don't want any sort of endorsement, that seems completely sensible.
and to pex... sorry to mislead you.
