    Default Safety items

Hello I am new to this forum but have been reading posts for awhile now. This is a very interesting forum!
A question I have is about "ears" I would like to know if it is preferable to buy the ones you can still hear but blocks out sound or just the cheapie 30 or so decibel ones - On a range is it a safer choice for the more expensive ones and if so - i see them range from around $30 to over $200 with similar protection numbers so it confuses me. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If you have no hearing problems (now) be grateful! Don't mess with your hearing! Soft insert-able earplugs properly inserted each and every time you are around gunfire will provide the best protection, followed by standard ear muffs. Most "electronic muffs" with microphones can't offer enough protection alone, you can always wear the ear plugs and electronic muffs simultaneously to achieve maximum protection while still being able to hear range commands. I personally like plain old (soft) ear plugs. Look for a NRR rating of at least 30 in your hearing protection.

It's hard to sleep when your ears are constantly ringing...

    Hello, Marilyn and welcome

The highest noise reduction rating currently (I believe) is NRR 33. This headset has that:

Pro-Ears Ultra Passive 33 Shooting Hearing Protection Headset

Passive means it is just the hearing protection without the electronic microphone to pick up normal voices. I wear these along with NRR 33 soft foam earplugs and both in combination work very well.
