Re: Open carry and what you should know before you do it
It may be a good idea to add some links regarding retention training/defensive tactics here. It also may be a good idea to say something like, "remember, when you are openly carrying your firearm that you are essentially writing a check, that you better be able to cash." So, make sure you are super comfortable with the firearm first/and know the laws relating to use of force/weapons possession.

Re: Open carry and what you should know before you do it
I am pretty sure it was clear that OC has certain risks that the average CC won't face.
I don't think that use of force plays any significantly different role for OC than it does for CC, and therefore doesn't really need a place in this particular thread. That's just me though, if there is a serious difference of opinion on that, I will gladly work it in.
I will see what I can dig up on the Retention training, although I believe the thread I linked has some in there.
Thanks for the input.
ETA~ Added a little more detail on Retention training. Seeing as how classes can be transient, and very area specific, I don't think adding actual class links would be helpful. Part of the idea is to get the new OC'er to do some legwork themselves...Last edited by headcase; May 19th, 2009 at 05:59 PM.
