Weird OC day in the Northeast
I do some consulting work on the side, mainly with gas stations and post offices; can't carry at the POs, but the gas stations I wouldn't go to unarmed.
Anyway, some of the stations on Saturday were on the far end of I-84, less than a mile from New York and New Jersey. I'm at one of the pumps doing a flow rate test, and I hear a nasally Bronx accent (my aunt grew up the the Bronx, believe me, I'd know that accent anywhere!) "Oh, my Gawd, he's gotta gun, HE'S GOTTA GUN!!!!!" pointing right at me.
I started swatting at it like it was a spider..."Get it offa me, get it offa me!"
Then I stopped, smiled at her, and said 'Welcome to Pennsylvania, America Starts here!"
She got back in her minivan, and her husband finished pumping his gas, then came over, introduced himself, and congratulated me on 'keeping the second alive', said that the a-holes in Trenton and Albany will never understand.
I wish I could claim credit for the spider routine, but I recall someone else saying it, and it seemed like a good idea at the time...
Later Saturday night, down in Dickson City headed into Texas Roadhouse, a large group of bikers outside chatting after dinner, and I walked through the group, "You a cop?", "Nah", I said. " criminal." Tongue. He just about died laughing and said he could never tell the difference.
He was carrying a nice black powder-coated S&W .357 in a belly-band under his vest...do those wheelguns ever look good like that!"...a REPUBLIC, if you can keep it."

I'll claim the credit- You're welcome
Awesome that someone got to do it, and it didn't fall over like a lead balloon.

I've been waiting for a time to use that one too. Sounds like all in all, it wasn't that bad of an experience.
I'm going to send rep just for doing it.

I've been wanting to use that one, too, but the opportunity hasn't presented itself yet. I did do it with a snake once. I was out for a walk in Winooski, Vermont, with a 6 foot Argentine boa constrictor. A woman yelled, "Oh my God, theres a snake on you!" I screamed, "What?! Where?! Get it off! GET IT OFF!!!
Her expression was priceless.
Here's the snake I was walking with:

wa3ra - that's some funny stuff. I like the biker story better.
I run into NY'rs all the time, and never get much reaction. Except once in a gun shop of all places. Sunday I ran into a couple at the gas pump. Woman was in the car facing me, guy was right next to me. I'm assuming they saw it.
Snakeman - nice snake.

Re: Weird OC day in the Northeast
This morning I was leaving a gas station C-store when a guy was pumping his gas. He noticed my sidearm and watched me all the way back to my car.
Based on his level of interest, I have a feeling he's either going to move to PA now or never come back. Not sure which
While I'm at it, I was at Wegman's yesterday. I turned the corner of a check out aisle at the same time a retarded kid working there came around the other corner. He didn't expect a person to be in his way and the first thing he saw was my gun, and he jumped back like he was about to get bit by a snake. Only the third time I saw somebody physically react to it, was unfortunate. I think it was the fact that I surprised him as much as him having a gun in his face (on my hip).Last edited by ungawa; May 9th, 2010 at 01:46 PM.
