Default How much ammo do you keep "in stock"?

So since ammo has been around more at different places, and some limits have gone away...and I have money to spend on ammo. I am just curious how much everyone has.

For carry I only have one box of Hornady Custom. One box Hornady Critical Defense and one box speer gold dot.

for target, as of today, only one box of 50 fmj's.

I'm buying more target ammo today.

Then buying some more gold dots online later on....I'm kind of mad about that. I spent $22 for a box of 20 Gold dot, when I just found online a box of 50 for $24 plus tax and shipping...It's the same exact bullet, just says law enforcement.

Wow.. good question.... I'm not even sure.

    I would say, probably:

Couple thousand rounds of .223/5x56 - FMJ and SC
Couple thousand .45 - All FMJ
Couple thousand .38/357 - FMJ, SP, HP
About a thousand rounds of .40 - FMJ, 100rds Speer and Fed HP
Couple thousand rounds of 7x57 Mauser - SP, HP, Hornady V-max, and Nosler
Couple hundred rounds of .32 - FMJ
Few bricks of 12ga - Mostly target/trap, a couple hundred rounds of military 00.

That's the main supply... not counting various other calibers.

I'm not sure on the rest, I haven't checked in a little while. My dad just took inventory though, so I have to find out...

I reload mostly. To that end I try to keep a minimum of 3,000 primers of each
size, this has been difficult the past year. Beyond that I have 3-4K bullets for all handgun and 1K in rifle. Beyond components I have a minimum of 1K for the AK, as I rarely load for that gun.

    I also try to keep a few K .22LR.

Holy shit. I have to catch up!

This summer I also want to buy some more magazine for my two glocks. Two more mags for the G19, and two or so more for the G26.

Personally I can't afford to at the moment, but I'm working on it short-term...

    Generally speaking...

I'd prefer to have at least 500 rounds for everything on hand, and not shoot more than 250 of anything at any time unless I've got fresh replacements ready. For carry, at least 100 rounds of various JHPs. A portion of all is on-hand here in the living space, and most in ready storage with the backpacks and gear.

At the moment, I've got 150+ for everything, and won't go below 50 until the above plan can be put into place. Carry ammo doesn't get fired at all unless I'm replacing it.

This question pops up fairly often, but it's always fun to read.

    I currently have:

    1,000 rds .223
    1,000 rds 7.62x39
    1,000 rds .22LR

    1,000 rds 9mm
    500 rds .357 mag
    500 rds .380ACP
    300 rds .32ACP

Considerably less in "defensive" rounds for each of those.

"1,000" is my "magic number". It's funny - a few years ago, my wife couldn't comprehend why I needed more than a few boxes of ammo at any given time. Now that she's seen how high the prices can get, she doesn't question it. The stuff doesn't go bad, so why not buy it now while the prices are lower?

I haven't bought ammo in months, and I'm looking at what I have as a source of income if things get really bad. Once I start working again, I'll start buying again.

Here is a good question. Is it alright to leave the ammo in their boxes then just store it in a plastic container? Like the ones at walmart that are like less then $1 for a 6 quart size container.

Just remember, if you can't afford to order bulk at the time, just pick up a box here and there. You might be paying a buck or two more when all is said and done, but you have to remember, Rome wasn't built in a day. I order bulk every now and then, but when I'm out and about, I pick a box or two up to replenish, or further build my supply. Every box is a step forward.

well at one time i had over 4k 9mm, 1k of .223, and 2k of 22. my supply has depleted alot since I havent had steady work, but i will one day have that much and more. 3-4k 9mm and 2-3k 223 and 22 is my golden number, whne i get that all will be good.
