Some people make you smile - aka an OC non event event
On the way back from the flea market today we stopped at Mr. Zs in Tannersville to do some serious sale shopping (great prices on chicken and other things this week). With our cart loaded to the gills we stood in line behind what was either a mother / daughter or a grandmother / grandaughter. To be very honest the woman was starting to annoy a tad, wouldn't move forward so I could get things on the belt, verbalizing every thought that came into her head etc etc ... just that 'annoying' type and by her demeanor I would have sworn she was a vacationer but who knows.
Anyway, I am standing loading things onto the belt and when I look forward I see this little girl (10ish) staring at my Glock. Figuring 'here we go' I try not to stare back when I hear her lean over to her mom (grandma) and say "Is that a gun?" The older lady glances back and then bends over a quietly says "Yes it is". The little girl said something back I couldn't hear and then I hear the mom say "Because it is a civil right, it is part of the 2nd amendment of the constitution and then she trailed off so I couldn't hear any more.
Needless to say the little girl kept staring and I gave her a big smile, to which she smiled back.
I really wanted to say something to the older woman, a thanks or something but as I said she was a bit 'twitchy' so I let it go.
Once they had left Tootie moved to the front to bag groceries and I asked her if she had heard what was said, she hadn't so I told her what I heard. The cashier (a tiny little woman about 5 foot nothing) said she had heard it to. She then went on to say she would rather be around people with them than those that didn't, but that was because she was a local and grew up around them and hunters.
I told her we weren't 'locals' but we had lived here so long we might as well be. She went on to say "the way things are going they are going to take every right we have away from us" to which I replied "Oh no they won't, people will eventually get mad enough they will start firing back, we will be right back to 1774 and this time we will leave Washington as a swamp". She laughed at that and we paid and left.
So they are out there folks, they may not be carrying or spouting rallying cries but they are out there and every time I run into one I just have to smile.Last edited by dc dalton; August 30th, 2009 at 08:26 PM. Reason: spelling

These stories restore my faith in humanity. Thank you.
Although my outlook has improved in general since I moved to PA two years ago.

It's only the people who live on the coasts and in big cities that are idiots and socialists (not all of them, but their numbers thrive there) must be something in the ocean air, or maybe it's the crowd mentality. The further you get towards the center of the country the more you realize the government doesn't stand a chance.

Ain't that the truth!
I'm sure newbies get a little put off by the long list of "problems while OCing" stories, but the truth is that most people don't notice, and the vast majority that do notice either don't care or quietly support you. It just gets incredibly boring posting another "nothing happened while OCing" report.
Nice OC story with a twist, DC!
