Ex-military, non-resident trying to get my handgun
Hey all,
Ex-military here and in reserves. I'm a NY resident (couldn't take my handgun there when I moved there for a few months) and recently transfered my Sig to PA because I am in school here. I have a NY license...what do I need to do to possess my handgun in my home? Kind of frustrating...NY wouldn't let me take it home without a 6-month background check and $300 in fees for a transfer to PA. Should of sold it...
Thanks!
John

Re: Ex-military, non-resident trying to get my handgun
Why not just sell your SIG here in PA and when you move to NY just buy a new one. As you mention you have a NY Permit (is it a target pistol permit). So you don't have to go to the trouble of paying 300 and the whole nine yards.

Re: Ex-military, non-resident trying to get my handgun
Ahh sorry - I meant I have a NY drivers license...not pistol license. The shop held on to my pistol over there. I'm trying to find a way to get it in my hands here....
thanks

Re: Ex-military, non-resident trying to get my handgun
I know for sure that PA FFL won't transfer you a Handgun cause of your NY license.
PA FFL wants to see a PA drivers license or a PA photo ID for a transfer unless you are active duty stationed here in PA. Why is your SIG with the FFL in NY? Did you buy it online and got it ship to your NY FFL?Train as you fight

Re: Ex-military, non-resident trying to get my handgun
Ahhh, so I need to get a PA license.
Yea, I was stationed out in California, bought it there and had it in my home...when I got out, I moved back to NY with my folks and they held my gun. So, I got into a school in PA - moved here...and now trying to get ahold of the thing. So, basically, get a PA license and then I am good to go?
Thanks!!

Johnnyfoxtrot, You are correct, just get your PA licence and you can get it here in PA. Easy as pie!
Cheers
