Firearms in vehicles?
Hi, I just got my license a few weeks ago and I have some questions with carrying firearms in my truck. Basically I just want to know what I should know when carrying a gun in my truck. I keep getting different answers from different people I talk to so I figured I'd come here and get my facts straight. Now I know I need a hunting license (which I have) and the gun needs to be somewhere that I cannot access from the cab (in my toolbox) and it needs to be unloaded with the shells somewhere else (behind my seat), but what else do I need to know so I don't get in trouble. For now the only time I'll have it is for groundhog hunting that the local farm I work at. The gun I'll be using the most is my 17 hmr. Oh, and something I was thinking about, is it legal to carry a gun that is illigal for hunting such as a 10-22 semi? I tried to find this info out online but didn't really have any luck. Thanks in advance for any help on this subject!

17 hmr, nice
Do you have License to Carry Firearms? It sounds like you just have a hunting license.

Re: Firearms in vehicles?
Long guns are fine, handgun is not, unless you have a Valid LTCF, or a permit from any other state.
Also it depends on how old you are....

You need a carry license from any state to have a handgun in a vehicle - loaded or unloaded. Unless you are going to/from a few certain exempted locations.
Its legal to have long guns in a vehicle, no license needed. But they can NEVER EVER be loaded within the vehicle.

Re: Firearms in vehicles?
Thanks for the responses! I don't have a LTCF because I'm a minor and all I will be carrying are rifles. Can I carry my semi even though I won't be using it for hunting? Like could I say I'm going to the gun club or something like that?
Thanks again,
Austin

errrmmm...at 16 I don't think so, I think you need to be 18 to transport, but not sure, someone smarter than me will fill us in soon

Re: Firearms in vehicles?
You should be good to go. Hunting alone is legal at the age of 16..unless they've changed that in the past few years....I would just stick with keeping the ammo / gun separate......i've been stopped a few times while in possesion of a long gun under 18 years old

Re: Firearms in vehicles?
I read the entire post and it seems that no one really knows. That's why I asked here, because I never got the same answer twice when I asked around. My general conclusion is that I should be fine if I have my hunting license and have the gun unloaded in my toolbox with the ammo either behind my seat or in my glove box and just to be extra safe I'll empty the clip. I've pretty much been reading around on the web all evening and I'm about 99% sure it's legal.
