    Well here's one you can do on the balcony, potatoes in a bag.

    Get a garbage bag (the leaf sized are best), roll it down on itself (think condom ), punch some drain holes in the bottom and add about 6" of potting soil. Then take a potato section that has an eye growing (you know, the ones in the bottom of the bag) or you can buy them at any garden store. Cut that eye section out and plant it. As the plant starts to grow add more soil and roll the bag up some each time you do. Water it normally BUT if you are expecting heavy downpours close the bag so the plant doesn't get soaked and rot.

    Keep doing that through the summer, as it grows add more soil and keep rolling the bag up. After the bag is full of soil (the plant has grown that much) let it grow another 2 weeks to a month and then cut the bag open so all the potatoes fall out.

    It's a neat trick a buddy of my taught me ... we are running 4 'bags' of these this summer.

    Heh, I lived across the street (1st street) for 3 years. Used to walk down there every night to buy my dinner preps .. god I love that place
