LTCF renewal
Just out of curiousity, I know that I should receive a notice to renew my license, but could I just go and renew early? Is there something that says I have to wait a certain amount of time before I'm allowed to renew?

Re: LTCF renewal
I would think you can go and renew, anytime. In Lehigh county, they do send you a notice that your license is up for renewal, but I don't think it would be a problem to get it early. I need to get a new one , as mine is getting bad from rubbing on all my other credit cards and ID's.

Re: LTCF renewal
The state basically says you cannot renew more than 60 days from when your current one expires.
f) Term of license.--
(1) A license to carry a firearm issued under subsection
(e) shall be valid throughout this Commonwealth for a period
of five years unless sooner revoked.
(2) At least 60 days prior to the expiration of each
license, the issuing sheriff shall send to the licensee an
application for renewal of license. Failure to receive a
renewal application shall not relieve a licensee from the
responsibility to renew the license.Last edited by HiredGoon; November 3rd, 2008 at 06:26 PM.

Re: LTCF renewal
It says that the sheriff must send a new application for a LTCF, as there is no renewal form, no later than sixty days prior to expiration. There is nothing that says you can't renew the day after you get your license,AFAIK. The sheriff may make you wait, but I didn't see anything in the statute preventing early reapplication....

Re: LTCF renewal
One thing to keep in mind, when you renew your LTCF it's good for 5 years from the date of issue, NOT 5 years from your current LTCF expiration date. If you renew too early you are cheating yourself out of time.

Re: LTCF renewal
Yeah, it is rather vague. It seems like sheriff's offices, from my personal experience and from what I've read here on the forums, take it to mean that you cannot renew more than 60 days before expiration.
Like you say though, according to statute, it seems that you could renew at any time during your 5 year period...if you were so inclined to do so for whatever reason.
