Default So first time at the range 50 yards mauser k98

So I took my Waffen SS mauser out to the shooting range to see how is would shoot. It was made in 1942 and i was shooting corrosive Yugoslavian rounds, well any input of how it looks or how i did, feel free to speak up.

I think you may need better ammo.

    Yeah, maybe.

The corrosive stuff is fun because it's dirt cheap and you can shoot shitloads of it. You just have to clean it really good afterwords.

Better ammo will give you better groups though. Looks like a nice gun though. I bought an old turk and it was rough. Shoots great though.

    Nice mauser. They're great rifles.

True, I don't like that either. I just use the remmington for hunting.

You can most likely find some bulk ammo that's more accurate than the old stuff, and not corrosive.

That said you won't beat the price of the surplus stuff. Only problem with that stuff is you get misfires, you can't hunt with it, and you have to clean your gun really good when you're done shooting it or you'll have trouble.

    But it's cheap.

Yep, the surplus stuff is cheap, and it does make noise, but it could end up being very bad for your barrel. If it ends up that after using it you need a new barrel that's when the cheap junk ammo becomes expencive.

You may want to start thinking about reloading, you can make some really good ammo at less that half the cost of factory ammo.

Looking clean does not mean that it's clean, shooting that corrosive stuff can be really bad, make sure you check it in the next day or two, run a clean patch through it and look at the patch for rust, if you find any run some hot water through the barrel to disolve the corrosive salts, dry it out real good, then oil it up real good.
