Default His and Hers - AR15 Fraternal Twins

These two builds came to life this past Sunday!
5.56x45 for her and 7.62x39 for me!

TWINS! Although not identical twins, as the only things they share in common are the GWACS Armory CAV-15 MKII lowers and the sights.
The purple 5.56x45 carbine is purposely a lightweight build, but the 7.62x39 is actually pretty light too thanks to the polymer lower and the non-HBAR barrel.

I've been squirreling away parts for these for a good while and it felt as though I would never get them completed but here they are at last!

Just curious, but why the choice on that type of lower?

    Weight
    - or rather the lack thereof.

The CAV-15 lower/stock combo is 1 full pound lighter than a standard lower with stock.
I've been wanting to build a lightweight AR15 that my wife can shoot for a while now. She has back issues and holding a rifle up is very difficult for more than a few shots. I figured if I could get the weight down enough she may be able to shoot it and not be limited to shooting from a bench.

I was just planning to buy ONE, but for $89 I decided I'd get two "just in case". I wasn't really sure what I was going to do with the extra lower, but I figured if nothing else, I'd build a lightweight for myself too.
I was debating "saving" it for a 45ACP build - the mag well was purposely sized internally to accept grease gun mags!

They're really pretty interesting. Certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but I like it. The LOP is good for me (A1 length) so I don't care that I can't adjust it - it's the same length as where I set my adjustable stocks - plus there is no rattle, just a nice, solid stock. The grip is fine too, but for others, those "non-changables" are not features they care to accept.

The "polymer" isn't "plasticky" like typical poly lowers (it's made of reinforced Dupont Nylon 6) and it overcomes the flaw where other polymer lowers fail by forming the lower and stock in one piece. ("normal" poly lowers are prone to cracking where the buffer tube screws in)

I really didn't know much about them before I bought them. It had been suggested by someone on the forum who knew I wanted to build a lightweight AR, so I took a chance. I started digging for info and learned a lot about them since I first ordered them.

As far as the "polymer" issue goes, I can say that I have a New Frontier polymer lower that I used on a 22LR build and I'll never buy another polymer lower again.
That said, I would not hesitate to buy more of these GWACS Aromory CAV-15 lowers in the future. Completely different animals.

No idea. I was tempted to weigh myself on the bathroom scale, then again while holding it, and do the math, but I would rather find a scale that I KNOW is accurate that I can weigh just the rifle.

Maybe the produce scale at the grocery store would work?

They should be able to weigh your rifle though.
