Or you plan on crashing your vehicle into a post office, court building, K-12 school, etc.

I read this, and you never even describe what kind of guns to consider in this opening post.

LTCF you're good for indirect travel with handguns. Long guns you're always good as long as they're unloaded as Knight described.
Spot on. A rifle is not a 'firearm.' Unloaded and separate rifle and mag storage is good to go.

I often wonder what they were smoking when they decided that a rifle wasn't a firearm.

    A rifle is a firearm.

    A shotgun is a firearm.

    A pistol is a firearm.

    A revolver is a firearm.

However, in order that a License to Carry Firearms not include rifles and shotguns they were deemed not to be firearms for that particular section of the Uniform Firearms Act.

You cannot have a loaded rifle or shotgun in a vehicle at any time, even leaning on it. The ammo must be in a separate container. No limits on transport that I know of. SBR and sawed off shotguns are a different matter.

Yep. I was once followed by a WCO back to my car while deer hunting. Unbeknownst to him, I had unloaded it, a winchester 94, immediately on leaving the woods. As I sat in the back of my wagon changing my boots, I laid the rifle in the luggage area next to me. He really thought he had me. The look of surprise on his face when he operated the lever, and nothing came out was priceless.

Right. Because they are not rifles or shotguns.

    They are firearms.
