Default 9mm AR15 - Best Way to Build One?

After 2 years of buying pieces, I finally have a second AR15 carbine in 5.56. (third AR if you count the 22LR that is nearing completion)
Both are flat tops - one will be fitted with iron sights only, the other will eventually wear a decent red dot. I have no desire to shoot long range - 100-200 yards max and mostly less than that to be honest, so I'm not looking for a rifle with a scope. I'm a close-range carbine guy.

If I wanted to build another, I can't think of anything different to do besides a 9mm carbine.

Can they be built to run reliably using a standard 5.56 stripped lower?
Would it be a wiser investment (from a reliability standpoint) to get a dedicated 9mm lower that accepts Glock mags? (I do have a G19 and several 33 rd mags)

Am I going to be turned off by a huge price difference for 9mm assembly vs 5.56?

I have time. I have no money, but I have time, so I will use it to learn, and then decide what to do.

    Thanks!

5.56 lower works fine, just get yourself a mag block and some colt pattern 9mm mags and you'll be good to go.

Don't know much about this mag block but the price is unbeatable for sure.

Also get a ramped bolt so you can use a standard hammer.

9mm AR is an answer for a question that was never asked. Save for a few more years and do it right a MP5 clone like MKE. Or something else that was born as a 9mm

Nothing wrong with a 9mm AR, IMO it's a much better option than a MP5.

A CZ Scorpion SBR it is then!

No really, I have a lower I have no idea what to do with and since I have exactly zero interest in a long-assed rifle with a scope, and having three 5.56 carbines makes no sense since I only have two arms, I figured a 9mm would work and they would all have the same overall feel to them.

Fact: Much easier and cheaper to build, maintain a 9mm AR versus any MP5 or clone, and they are reliable.

The MP5 is a great gun don't get me wrong, parts mags and especially maintenance go in favor of the AR, that is also a fact.
