What suppressor?
What Suppressor for AR with 10.5" BBL will also be used on a 16"? I'm leaning toward the GemTec M4-02. I also need one for my H&K Tac .45 also leaning toward the GemTec blackside. Opinions and suggestions please.

Re: What suppressor?
i have a gemtech halo for my ar15. 650.00 plus 200.... i dont think i'll be buying another one. sure you dont need ears to shoot but for 850? i'll stick with the suppressors for 22's much cheaper and MUCH quieter.. just my opinion.

Re: What suppressor?
Most suppressor MFGs do NOT recommend the use of a suppressor on less than a 11.5" barrel, and will not warrant using one on a short barrel like that.
the blast from such a short 5.56 barrel can destabilize the bullet, and cause baffle strikes.
Gemtech says not to use on less than 11.5"
11.5" and higher your choice will be fine, the Gemtech M4-02 is a nice can.
I have a Mark White "SoundTech" M6-223 myself for 223.
as for the 45, i have a Bowers ATAS for my Socom, but the Blackside is also damn nice.
Frankly, if i were to buy another 45 can, it would be a SWR HEMS 2, its probably the finest 45acp can currently made."Oderint Dum Metuant" - BMFH

Re: What suppressor?
I agree with Jay reguarding the 556/223 suppressor. I own a AAC Omni and will only use it down to a 11.5 though I do like it for it's modularity.
I don't have anything for 45 yet though if I were to I would definatly go with the SWR HEMIS II hands down. I currently have 2 other products through SWR, not only are they quiet and build extremely well but the customer service is second to NONE in the industry!
Good luck,
Cheers,

I bought a M4-02 for my QCB (LWRC 10.5) and my M4 clone (LWRC 16) I will let you know how it works when the approved Form 4 comes in...which should be any day now!

Re: What suppressor?
Thanks for the advice guys. My dealer said he has run them as low as 7.5" on a M16 with no problems. I do like the SWR HEMS 2 I think I might go with that instead of the Blackside only down side is its 200 bucks more. I have about 6 weeks to make up my mind.

Re: What suppressor?
Go over to the ar15.com and there is a thread on supressing short barrels. A Gemtech rep stated, in reference to using a halo supressor on a shorty, that it would be ok to use it on a barrel as short as 10", BUT do not rapid fire or shoot full auto because that would cause baffle or end cap strikes. Others chimed in and concured on the rapid/full auto firing with a shorty. Gemtech's manual says to avoid boattail projos as well since that will cause stability issues in a shorty.

Re: What suppressor?
I use a YHM can on my 11.5" M16 upper. No problems in semi or full. I just got another one in their SS version. Can't beat the price performance of the YHM stuff. Three shot bursts (trigger control, not burst kit) stay on a 12" square steel plate at 100 yards with this setup. I usually use either Black Hills or Prvi Partisan 75gr HPT match.
