    Default OC in Cabelas!

    Greetings all

I thought about posting this in my Lehigh Valley OC Chronicle, but in the first place, I am not sure anyone is reading it, and in the second, Cabelas ain't in the Lehigh Valley. Anyway...

A couple of weeks ago, someone local to here posted that they had had a conversation, email exchange or whatever with the store manager at Cabelas, with the end result being that Cabelas would not hassle people who chose to OC. So tonight I tested it out. I got to the store, and I had never seen the parking lot so empty. I waltzed right past the greeters trying to get me to sign up for a Cabelas credit card and made my way straight to the optics booth, where I was going to meet the lady who found the gun I was interested in buying. The store was stuffed with "outfitters", at at times I was attended by as many as three of them. No one said a word about my M&P. I had some very nice conversations with a number of the people there regarding pellet guns, knives, and other sorts of stuff.

I was there to buy a Desert Eagle .177 pellet gun to augment my pellet shooting activities. I was not impressed, and it is going back tomorrow. So I will get another chance to walk around with my gun hanging out and see if anyone is alarmed.

It is interesting how many non-incidents there are compared to incidents

Those Desert Eagle pellet guns are terrible! I have one and I really wish I didn't.

Interesting, but when you buy a weapon there they escort you to the front door before handing you the weapon.

It is interesting, and I am curious as to how far it will go. They still have their signs on the door that all guns must be checked at the counter, with another that says the policy does not apply to concealed carry permit owners. I remember being in there one time with one gun in my hand trying it for fit with a holster, and being escorted by an "outfitter" the whole time. At that time the policy was I had to be escorted or have a lock on the gun. I had another gun in my pocket, my CCW. I asked the "outfitter" if I could remove the contents of my pocket to test the fit of the holstered gun (it was a pocket holster after all) and his reply was, "Not if it is another gun!" But because of recent events I can wander about with one openly displayed on my hip. I am pretty sure though, that if it came out of the holster there would be trouble.

Dave, I know what you mean about the pellet gun. I read lots of good reviews, but I think they must have been by people who are not shaving yet. I wanted a repeater to augment my Crosman pump single shot, but I guess I am going to have to forgo that, at least for indoor use. Eventually my suppressor will be here and I can shoot in the barn yard, and probably with less noise. This thing is really loud!

Headcase, not only was I in Cabelas, but I was in my bank again, and interacted with his glorious majesty the manager (who is actually a pretty nice guy), and he had nothing to say to me either. I know the time will come eventually, and I know some folks have had negative experiences, but the level of negative experience while carrying openly does not even come close to the negative experience of having to deal with something like customer service!
