1st time OCing
Well, the wife and I went to a little ice cream place in Hamlin tonight. It is called the Shake Place. I were a SOB holster with a Taurus 24/7 9mm. When we got there it was pretty busy. I told the wife I had forgotten a shirt to wear to conceal my gun. She offered me hers but I figured "what the heck, it is time to try oc". I got out and I didn't see anyone really take notice. I figured it is on my back most people won't see it. When I took the first 2 ice creams back for two of the kids, my wife said that the car right behind me noticed the gun. There were 2 guys and a girl in the car. She said she saw the one guy say something about a weapon. She couldn't hear him but she could read his lips. She said a couple of people looked once but never looked concerned. (You know hicks like me). One guy in a suit looked at me a few times but never said anything. But the 2 guys in the car talked about it the whole time we were there and kept watching me. Even as we left he watched us leave. Over all it went well I will have to try it another time in a little busier area.

Re: 1st time OCing
I thought about doing that. But the wife said they looked a little spooked and I didn't want a good night to turn bad. I have to go out and get some ink for the printer, and then I will print out some of pa patriots flyers. Then I will at least have something in writting for them.

Re: 1st time OCing
I don't know about approaching people to explain yourself. If they come to you, then by all means explain away. Who knows what those kids in the car were thinking or saying? They could have been waiting to light up a joint and pegged you as a cop, making them paranoid you were going to bust them any second. They could have been waiting to rob the place. They could have been just amazed at seeing a real live firearm. Who knows? My advice would be that if you OC, you do so because it is comfortable to you and you think of it as just going about your life they way you normally would. If you raise peoples curiosity and they ask you about it, handle those questions in a polite manner, but I would not recommend actively seeking out people to ask if you are making them uncomfortable. That is just asking for any number of problems IMHO.

Re: 1st time OCing
Good report. I really do enjoy the "liberating" feeling of OC.
I have to agree with Headcase though: I don't approach people; I let them approach me about OC (although nobody has yet ). When I OC, I just go about my business and try not to "over-stare" at my sidearm. I act the same as if I was CC or not carrying at all.
I also need to get on the ball and print some flyers. I've been OCing "under-equipped". Someone should smack me up-side the head!

My bad, I misunderstood the circumstances there. In that case, yes, definatley allow them to make the first move if theyre curious.

Re: 1st time OCing
I'm pretty suprised that nobody has commented on the use of an SOB holster for open carry yet.
I can tell you've been rady8ed, you have a nice glow about you.

Re: 1st time OCing
Good catch.
Whether it's at the ice cream stand, or at a department store, unless you keep saying, "Please, you go first", then there are people lined up behind you.
If someone else wishes to state the obvious, go for it.
Otherwise, congrats on the OC.
Other than a playground, I can't think of a place where there could be a larger concentration of soccer moms and rug rats. No SWAT team showed up? Imagine that.
One of the first times I OCd was to an ice cream stand... we went to the one I figured would be less busy... I was wrong. Must have been a little league team or something. There were about 30 kids running around. I didn't sense any panic from anyone.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!
