    Default 22 HORNET HELP

just cited mine in today its a handi rifle model with a 3x9x40 redhead scope. that little thing shot a group the size of a nickel at 100 yards with hornaday ballistic tip ammo. my question is would this gun be good for coyotes and fox? i had just bought a CZ 527 lux 223 bolt action and was wondering if i could get away with using the hornet instead. just wondering what kind of yardage a hornet will reach out too? any info would be appreciated

that all depends on how you are hunting Coyote. I have seen them shot with a .22 Lr but i would say if your shooting more that 100 yards use the .223. if you are using the hornet you will need to only hit the head for sure the .223 will be more forgiving and sometimes a head shot is difficult when the little buggers are running around. now foxes the hornet is just fine.

I've seen deer dropped at around 175 with the hornet and have seen a yote get away from a 30-06 from 30 yards .... the key is shot placement .

Coyotes and foxes are very different, I killed a few foxes with a stevens 340 in .22 hornet at between 175 and 200 yards and it was very deadly. For coyotes if you want clean kills keep it to 100yds.

I've killed quite a few foxes with .22lrhp and had no problems at 50yds.
